Even though I loosely consider myself an e cig veteran, I profess an ignorance about cartomizers. As I wait anxiously for my V2, I've read many users employing cartomizers on thier V2's.
As I understand it, these are atty/cart combos that you dispose of?
What kind of atty fitting are they (510, 801, 901)?
Do the attys have shorter life spans than a reg 510?
Do you refill the carts until the atty dies?

Sorry about the noob level on this! I just never had any exposure to them. Any info would be appreciated!

I do not have a V2, but I do use cartomizers with my Xhaler and my SB. I use them at HV so the most important thing to due is keep them moist so the polyfill does not burn. After the initial filling of the cartomizer, I generally take 10-20 drags and then drip in 6 drops into the battery end and repeat. I can generally due this between 10-50 times before the cartomizer goes “bad”. Bad = less vapor and the draw gets increasingly harder. I never had an atty die in a cartomizer; it just seems to get “gummed-up” after many refills.

I do not know what kind of connection the V2 comes with, but for an example the SB comes with a 510 connection so I needed an adapter for a 510 to a Kr808d-1.

I have one question too:

Are the Cartomizes safe to use? In a German board I'm in, a guy tested the KR808 Cartomizers and he gave a warning to everybody not to use them.

He disassembled one after standard usage and he did not even refill it once, this is how it looked like

I guess burned plastics/cotton is not good for your health...

Looks like he got that cart a little dry. I burn them at 3.7V but I am sucking on them for a long time, probably about 7 to 10 sec. Got the V2 and used a cart all day that I had used previously. Refilled a couple times during the day and just puffed on it. Refilled it last night and will puff on it all day today. Been having good luck with the cartomizers and a lot less hassel than the alternatives.

well, i know this pic and the warning, and more of this pics, some are posted here since a few months.

the above was at 3.7V, not 6V.
this device startet an controversy because of the burning.

some say that with them build like that, it will be impossible to convince any FDA or similar institutions that those are safe for people to use, or even worse.

currently i use those myself, but i don't see whats the hype is about.

if those burn now and then, with normal usage, they are definatley nothing to take easy on or should be recommended to new vapers.

I have pulled several of mine apart after 5v use for up to a week at a time and mine do NOT look like this at all..

If you vape a dry cart, as this one in the pic looks like, you will burn things up.
Someone vaped a long time on dry for this to occur..

Just keep your carts filled and topped off.

I do not worry in the least. As I said I have taken apart several and never found this and I use them at 5 and 6v but mostly at 5..

Well I definitely have been burning up cartomizers at high voltages. I've pulled apart quite a few cartomizers that had been badly burned and when I read this thread I decided to pull apart a cartomizer I've been using on the V2 for 2 days now and look what i found...

It seems in order to make your cart last at high volts you must keep the cart 90-100% full at ALL times. Even then a cart only lasts me about 2-5 days until it tastes a bit burnt.

But honestly I don't really mind using cartos after seeing this happen to mine. It seems the fibers are melting together more than carbonizing and at high volts they still seem to be cheaper and more reliable than many other atomizers I've used, especially if you get 2-5 days out of each one.

Hey Frost,

thx for the pics and the effort of disassembling your carto!
Think I'll be staying away from these Cartomizers, vapor of burned fiber in your lungs can"t be good...

We breathe worse in traffic everyday.

I never get a burned taste on my carts but I don't run them dry or cook them off for 10 second draws.

I run a rather high 42 - 45mg juice and it doesn't take long to be satisfied.
If I'm vaping on it like an airhose of life i use the 3.7 Protege or Prodigy V1.

That cart must have tasted terrible :?:

I'm going to pull this one apart after a full week of using and refilling on the V2 @ 5v and see whats inside.

Brock!

We may have the blanks in now, they are just boxed ... waiting on Casey and I .... Hopefully tomorrow we will get a chance to go through them :)

I'd sent her an email about something else (waiting to order some of the V1 switches) so if they are I'll throw them in my cart when you get them up :w00t:

I'm in no hurry for the email / ticket either.. I know yall are busy and it aint a kidney :) I have plenty of PS devices to hold me over. *Plenty* LOL

BrockJ - awaiting my Prodigy V2 and I have loads of carts. Is that what you use on the PV2??? I really like the carts.

Yes.. I'm almost Atomz / cartomizer only.
I'll still run a 510 every now and then but the carts are so carefree and last a while. As long as you don't burn them dry they'll last a month or so. And I get tons of vapor. TONS!

If the juice is really sweet or gummy they can goo up but then I just wash them out with PGA (Pure Grain Alcohol / Everclear). Adds a little throat hit too 8-o
