Are you certain you filled it up enough with juice before trying to vape it? It has to be really primed well, the filling has to be wet looking on top, before vaping.
Once a carto is burnt there's no salvaging it.. You'll have to throw that one in the trash and use a new one. Just make sure you prime it right.
You can just Google the proper technique for priming a carto, which is the most important thing when dealing with them.

IMO... Never buy just one cartomizer. Buy a pack. Sometimes you get one that just doesn't work properly. Sometimes you make a mistake and don't get it filled enough.
I agree with Durtzy, that once a cartomizer gets burned, there's really no bringing it back. A slight taste of burning, like your carto ran a little dry is one thing. They can usually be rescued from that, but a full on burnt carto is never going to be rescued.
