Cartomizer vs. Clearomizer ;-)

So i´m thinking about getting a Kamry K100/101 as my first mechanical mod.

As it´s design is ment for cartomizers as well i´m interested to learn about this stuff. Is it just old school or still interesting? Can I compare the taste with the more modern stuff? How is it with the costs?

At the moment i´m vaping regulated with my iStick and the small Nautilus. My other one is a Cloupor dna 30 box with the big Nautilus. Within the last few month I really learned to love both. No problems whatever except getting used to a few minor bugs. Usually caused by my misunderstanding. :p

In fact I will buy the Kamry anyway, even if it´s just for the design. Got a german vendor who is selling extension tubes so that a 18650 plus kick will fit. This guy is selling spare top caps as well so I will have no problems to get spares. This is ment for the use of my Nautiluses of course. Otherwise I really want to test these cartomizers. Two are included in the kit I want to order so what the heck.

So a few more questions. Which cartos will fit the Kamry? Which brand is the best or most valuable? Where can I get unpunched ones? For the future which tanks can you recommend? What else can you tell me?

Thanks a lot in advance, Rainer :) :vapor:

In my experience (vaping since 2010) cartos just don't cut the mustard anymore. They were fine when they were the only option, and even toward the beginning when clearos first came out. Now, they suck. I bought a brick of them (100) some time ago and still have lots left. I save them for an absolute emergency. Like, end-of-the-world emergency. Stick with the clearos, they hold more, and give better flavor. Plus, cartos arent cheap like they used to be for some reason.

In my opinion, the only thing better than cartos and cartotanks is some kind of rebuildable (Kayfun is my own preference, for a great rebuildable); I don't waste my time or money with "clearos" anymore.

You can get good Smok cartos at IBtanked, the kind with holes and flanges at the bottom that go in cartotanks, for $1.50 each, or $1.35 if you buy 10 or more. At Vapor Kings, they have good Smok cartotanks for $6, for any of them. You can get Boge XL cartos, the kind without holes or flanges, for $3.75/5pk, at electronicstix. The length of time they last depends on the juice, and how high you turn the power; thicker, sweeter juice, and/or turning up the power pretty high, wears them out faster. Anywhere from 3 days to 3 wks? I'm good with 3 days each, with my very sweet vapes, because 10 of them is a month's supply -- $16.50 at IBtanked, including shipping.

For absolute best flavor and low cost to maintain, a rebuildable is the best option, followed by cartos/cartotanks, with clearos trailing very, very distantly.

Thanks all, very helpful. :thumb:

In the meantime i found a set for 25 € from a mod in a german forum. A leftover from a group buy, brandnew and perfect for me. I was asking about cartos as this little thingi will look quite cool with the drip shield. I will give it a try inclusive a tank. Ok, so when it is second to building and wicking myself i can live with that. If the taste is as i´m expecting it it will be worth a little investment.

At the moment i don´t see me rebuilding anything. Of course i will be there but not right now. In fact i´m enjoying vaping as it is just too much. More flavour is always welcome! :p

@Andria, thanks for your comment. Brought me over to the right sub forum and i learned a lot.

Yes, cartomizers may be old school but thats me as well, haha. Just playing around and learning something new every day. One of my Nautilus is dying today and i have no more spare coils. So i switched back to Evods on my Cloupor Box. Works as well.

Love this compatibility! Enjoy the rest of 2014 and happy vaping in 2015, Rainer

I guess cartos are old school, but I wasn't around then, so I'm enjoying them now. :D Totally understand about the rebuilding; I think I'd been vaping a couple months before I finally decided to give it a go -- it's not difficult, just small and fiddly. :D And you need to accumulate the proper materials before starting it anyway. The main reason I got started with it was to save money; it's far cheaper to build and wick your own coils than any other way. I love my cartotank, but it's nice to know that if money is too tight to get more cartos, I can always just use my self-coiled Kayfun. :thumb:

Thanks again. :)

I will give cartos a try just for the fun of it. Just found a vendor who is selling a 5 pack for 5,80 €. So thats not bad at all. May be i just use it for in between or i go to use them with tanks as well. Yesterday i was at my local b&m and bought 5 new coils for my two Aspires and asked him about cartos. Nothing there so instead i got a 18350 Efest Purple IMR for the Kamry as i don´t trust the kit batteries. :D

After the Kamry i have to consolidate my financial excursions and take advantage of the savings on tobacco. As the laws in Germany will change end of 2015 i then have to stock up my high nicotine PG for self mixing anyway. At least my fridge will get something to do exept the occasionally pizza, haha. Then i´m going to pile up a few mechancal mods and a few high power regulated ones. You never know! :p

Isn´t there a nice little island where we can put our stupid politicians to? There they can "regulate" themselves. Preferably with a few handguns?

Happy vaping, Rainer  :toast:

When I started vaping the choices were cartos or 510 type dripping atomizers (or, heaven forbid, CE2 clearos), and cartridges with blue foam or tea bags were just then becoming a thing of the past. So cartos were the best deal in town if you didn't want to drip.

In today's world the carto (tank) is still one of the most efficient ways to vape, and they are still second only to RBAs & drippers for flavor.

BTW, the Kamry is a clone of the Empire Mod & drip shield, which Keith developed for the 901 dripping atomizer.
    The Empire PV Mod
The 901 was a great dripper, but damn, did they ever leak without the drip shield.
Most modern day RDAs use the 901 concepts. (and damn, would they ever benefit from a drip shield)
