So I've been really into smoketech duel coil carto tanks recently. I've been using them on a couple ego twists, and normally I have it set at 4.0 volts. Tonight I turned up the voltage all the way to 4.8 volts and I really like it. It doesn't taste burn't at all, but I'm concerned that I'm going to damage something. These things are standard resistance carto's. Is 4.8 too high? Will it shorten the life of the carto? I'm a frequent view of grimmgreens videos and it seems like he's always rocking everything around 5 volts. Even with low res stuff. Any insight to this would be helpful.

Much depends upon the resistance (ohm rating) of the cartomizer, which you didn't state. Look at the Safe Vaping Power Chart below (click the linked image to enlarge it):

Vaping Power Chart 2.0 - Imgur

This chart is often used as a general guideline to match volts to the ohm rating of the carto that you use. Stay in the green zone for best results.

A low resistance carto is safe to use from 3.0 - 3.7 volts, a standard resistance carto is best used at 3.0 - 4.2 volts, and a higher resistance carto is best used at 3.7 - 5.2 volts.

I have never understood the need that some people have for trying to vape a low resistance atty at 5-6 volts. These atty's were not designed to perform at those voltage ranges.

If you would like a more detailed explanation on ohm/voltage/wattage the creator of the above chart wrote this article:

I use 2 ohm DC at 6v and 3 ohm at 7.4v for the last 2 years,,,,I like the big hit and flavor I get with that setup,it may drain the batts faster but thats why I got lots of batts:) 1.5 ohm DC I use at 5v,but would never use a LR single coil over 4v..

You're saying volts, but you must mean watts. Modern APV's top out at 6 volts.

Here again Baditude I have some mods that are not regulated I use stacked 18350's imr or 16340's and vape at 7.4 VOLTS...bolt/extension,MaxiRS,Goldrush,VV Box Mods...

Sorry to question you. Didn't realize you might be stacking batteries.

Whatever keeps you off the smokes. Be safe.
