Cartos and tanks

Personally the carto tanks don't put out enough flavor or vapor for me. The taste is muted and sometimes has odd notes if the filler is not the best quality. And if you do choose to go with a carto tank make sure its one that locks the carto in place. I tried one of the cheaper ones over at gotvapes and that thing spilled in my lap so many friggn times that I threw it away.

IBTanked has some nice tanks for a pretty reasonable price. They are heavy glass. I think they produce a lot of vapor and they seem to be more consistent than a Protank or iClear. I just don't like priming the cartos and they are a bit harder to fill. I use mostly clearos because they are easy to use and put up with the dry hits and gurgling.

If I were to give you an honest recommendation I would go with a rebuildable dripper. You will never get better flavor or vapor out of a set up. But they don't work well with variable mods. Especially in the sub-ohm coil set ups (less than one ohm).

i really want to go this route but the whole ohm law thing kinda intimidates me. is it the lower the ohm the more vapor you get? if thats the case what would be the lowest ohm you can use on a MVP?

I just ordered from IBTanked. On recommendation from several people that they got MORE flavor than any clearo.
The tanks are very well reviewed. The real question is "what carto will be best". I couldn't get any from Ikenvape, so I'm going to start with the readily available Smok and see how it goes.

I personally am pretty happy with ProTanks (and MiniProTanks, and EVODs and T3's), but heck, if it's better, it's better, so I'm going to give it a try.

Quality, reasonably-priced borosilicate glass carto tanks made right here in California.

Not to be rude, but if Ohms get confusing (they DO, I understand!), then you don't want to be fiddling with sub-ohm home-builds yet!

Cirrus tanks
505 hand blown glass tanks
One piece clear tank
MAP/splash tanks

All are in my inventory. I prefer the consistency of the carto tanks. I also use rebuildable drip atty's but carto tanks are my day in day out.
I prefer low resistance carto's myself.

I have had good luck with Boge brand but I was gifted some Ikenvape from Baditude and they are very good. The past few Boge's I have had minor issues with wicking after priming but not that big of a deal.

Baditude has been my carto/vaping mentor. Look him up and his blogs. Very very informative.

I use carto tanks exclusively. I find that they taste great and produce a lot of warm vapor.
There are some flavors that don't work so well in this set up, but most are great.

There is a bit of a learning curve in using carto tanks. Please look up Baditude here and read his blogs, a few times. He is the defacto carto Guru around here and he has steered me and many others in carto happiness.

The most important thing you are going to have to learn is how to prime the cartos correctly. Baditude has several recommendations on how to do that well, plus there are many instructional videos on YouTube.

I can give a +1 to IBTanked tanks. Great quality for a great price.

As for ohms law, knowing it will help you chose a correct voltage so you get the best flavor and vapor. My recent experience is to use cartos with a HIGHER resistance. I find that I can run them at a lower wattage than the low ohm cartos and get even more flavor from them.

i'm looking to try a carto + tank combo on my MVP (when i get it in on tuesday :D) i just have a few questions:

1) what tank seems to have a pretty solid build?

2)do cartos make a lot of vapor?

3)is it on par to lets say a protank or iClear?

4)and why do you prefer carto/tank setups?
I took the liberty of numbering your questions. Be aware that (like most things) everyone's own personal tastes and experiences will vary and that folks are (typically) of the opinion that "what works best for me should work best for everyone else". I'm even guilty of that myself, but can usually catch myself when I am doing it. Usually.

1) The IBTanked tanks are some of the most consistently recommended and highly praised tanks out there. Even without any sort of flange or lock, they are famous for having a firm grip and solid seals to the carto and as a result, are very resistant to leaking and messy "pull out" incidents. There are tanks that are both cheaper and more expensive. Some have fill features that are clever designs, some have metal cages around the tank, and it's possible to "test out" carto-tanks inexpensively to see if they are "right for you". I personally bought a double-handful of the Smok Pyrex DCTs and have determined that carto-tanks are going to be my delivery system of choice. But because I went with the low-budget tanks (they're essentially disposable since the ends are not removable and the seals/rings are not replaceable) I will end up replacing them (with IBT's I suspect) when they fail. That is a when, not an if. They will wear out, sooner or later.

2) Carto's "CAN" make a lot of vapor, but they can also run dry, get flooded, or underperform. When they are running well, they can be exceptional. A carto that "runs well" is due to finding a brand, type, number of coils, number of holes, resistance, and voltage/wattage that suits the liquid, user and their vaping style. It's not hard to "go basic" and get satisfactory performance, but with a little trial-and-error, it is possible to tweak the variables and obtain exceptional performance.

3) That's a tricky one and where personal experience, preference and "what I like is probably what others will like" comes into play. I know of plenty of members who have shared their experiences and clearly prefer clearos over cartos, and probably just as many who feel the opposite. I will say that if either is setup well, they both have the capability to impress and please the operator. How's that for being non-committal?

4) I like cartos (both tanked and untanked) due to their simplicity and (for me) how they don't necessarily require any twiddling, fiddling or adjustment, unless you WANT to tweak them. Essentially a carto-tank is just a carto that auto-fills from a reservoir. So as someone who is fine with a properly filled carto on an eGo, a well-primed carto in a tank is (for me) "more of the same with longer times between top offs". Sure, seeing your liquid slosh around inside of a pyrex tank is eye-pleasing, but I just like being able to easily switch between about 6 or so pre-filled and primed tanks as my tastes change throughout the day and know that whichever tank I spin onto my mod, I am going to get a vape that I like without having to do anything but press the fire button.

I use the Innokin iClear 30 and the Kanger Protanks on the MVP. Easy to use, but occassional dry hits can be frustrating. Some flavors are muted.

I get the most flavor and vapor from cartotanks. This is logical because of the difference in the surface area of the wick systems between clearos vs cartomizers. String wicks = small surface area. Big wad of polyfiller = larger surface area. Cartotanks for the win. Zero maintanance. Consistancy. Dependability.

My favorite tank vendor is IBTanked. IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us!

Above are a 19mm and a 25mm diameter IBTanked's on MVP's.

I have a few Smok dct's in pyrex. For cartos, I am currently using smok 2 ohm dual coils, but I have also gotten good performance from single coils.
As far as vapor production, yes, for me it is a lot better.
It seems that everyone has their own way to prime, the good thing about it is that they are all right. Trust me, you will know when you do it wrong.

well, i finally gave in and bought a IBtank and a pack of smoktech cartos! the smoktech cartos are rounded on the bottom so i guess the only way to prime those is to drip inside instead of using the carto-condom trick?

I have never used Smoktech's, so a question....do they come with a plastic sleeve over the bottom flanged area? If so, the condom method can still work.

Check out YouTube, there are dozens of alternate ways to prime a carto.

I followed Baditude's advice and got the IBtanked to go on my MVP. It has changed my view on vaping in general. No more tinkering and cleaning clearos to get everything working only to have to repeat the process shortly there after. The IBtanked with Carto just works and works well all day long. This combo is the only reason I am still smoke free.
