I am not that active on the forum these days, so apologies if this has already been discussed.

I've noticed lately that I will sometimes put a carto on my battery, activate it, and immediately get an overwhelming blast of burnt smoke. This has happened to me several times in the past couple of weeks. The cartos are neither brand-new or old, but are always well-filled. The batteries are not fresh off the charger.

Yesterday, I was vaping away on a carto and started to sense it was going to run dry. I replaced it with another carto that had been used a couple of times already and was about a day old (and well-filled, of course). As soon as I hit the button, I got a whoosh of dry, burnt, smoky taste. Once this happens, the carto is ruined.

The batteries are Riva 510's (eGo clones that put out between 4.2v - 3.7v) and Boge LR cartos. I've been using this setup for months and have only had this problem for the past couple of weeks.

Not only is the taste burnt and smoky, but the volume of vapor is much larger. When this happens, I can hold out my PV, hit the button, and watch the vapor come out of the mouthpiece. This would never happen normally.

Thoughts?

I had one the other day that was a couple hours old and working fine and all of a sudden I got the bad burnt taste. I kept lowering the voltage but nothing helped. I put it on the provari to check the ohms and it said .9! It shorted out. I'm lucky I didn't lose the device I was using it on.

I have noticed that my latest batch of 2.0 dcc's from MV have been "burning out" quickly. Don't know if I over-drive them, but I usually vape at 5~ volts on a 2.0 ohm dcc in a tank for at least a week or two. Lately I've noticed that after a few days, the resistance has changed to ~1 ohm or so. The carto usually vapes ok, just gets real warm. I think possibly the heat is changing the resistance of the coils. Anyhow, once that happens, I finish the tank, and toss the cart. Kind of funny - they might of changed their supplier in China, or they might have gotten a bad lot of nichrome, etc. Hard to tell at this point.

I've been having the same issue as the last 2 packs of bogue 2.0 cartos I've bought 7 of them instantly burnt out and another burnt our shortly thereafter. I only ordered the bogues because everyone said how reliable they are, so maybe I'm just having some bad luck or maybe they are all still hungover from Chinese New Year and making bad cartos.

I've been using smoktech resurrectors and they've been going UP in resistance. The last pack I've used has all done that. The one I'm using now is metering 2.8 and it is supposed to be 1.7 I just checked it and it has now gone to 3.4! I just started using it yesterday. This should be interesting what happens next.

I check my carto's ohms on the provari when I first start using them, I can't remember what this one said, I think 2.0 out of the box but they are definatly going up.

I was just coming to make a post similar to this so may as well add my recent experiences and maybe get/give some input rather than start a new thread. I just grabbed a provari v2 2 weeks ago now and have been using EMDCC's, and have been having a bit of difficulty with them shorting out as well.
I'm still trying to get the hang of carto's and have ended up vaping more filler material than I'd like but I'm finally getting the hang of when to top them up to keep them wet.

The real problem is the E1 error I've gotten with 4 so far. "E1 – Short Circuit / Shorted Atomizer – If this error appears, remove the atomizer and replace with a different one
or or lower your voltage settings The ProVari will automatically reset when the problem is fixed lower your voltage settings. The ProVari will automatically reset when the problem is fixed. "

These all happen on brand new freshly filled cartomizers (after having been set to sit for about an hour) after maybe an hour of use, so it's not like they're just getting old, and these ones weren't dry for sure lol. 4/10 shorted cartos in 3 days seems like pretty bad odds. I've been vaping at 4.2v on the smoktek emdcc's, is that voltage too high for low res dcc's? Seems strange to me since most resources I've been able to find say a 1.5ohm dcc is just two 3.0ohm single coils, which should be fine at 4.2v
Lowering the voltage after that error happens doesn't save the carto, they no longer function after that.

I mess up quite often and overfill the carto's, could that be a contributor?

I've got the smoktek xl 4ml tank coming in with a pack of 1.5ohm dcc's, and a pack of 3.0 ohm scc's to test it out and see but I'm not sure how that's going to work out lol.

If this should be moved to it's own thread just say. I just figured it may be related?

~edit~ Make that 6 shorted smoktek emdcc's. One had maybe 3 hours of vaping and only at 3.8v, the other 6 or 7 @ 4.0 - 4.2.

Could the 510 to ego adapter be causing problems?

I really think Smok has put out some bad carts lately. As mentioned earlier, the resistances are going wonky under load, which is caused by a bad or different lot of nichrome / resistance wire, possibly. At least that's my theory so far... My 2.0 ohm dcc's drop to around ~1 ohm under use, and heat up like no tomorrow. I used to vape them at 5v all day, and get weeks out of them...

I have been having a lot of trouble with my cartos recently. I bought a bunch of Boge 3.0 ohm cartos over a month ago. First two went in my tank and lasted well over 10 days. Ever since then, they have lasted at most a day and a half. The juice starts turning dark brown and the filler inside just gets black and the draw gets tight and I start getting juice in my mouth. This is getting very frustrating. I have tried different flavors, one hole vs 2 holes punched in the cartos, pure PG vs pg and Vg mix, varied the voltage of my provari from 4.4-5 ohm. All the same result. I have gone through 12 cartos in the past twelve days, is it just a bad batch or is my Provari possibly messing up? This is becoming very annoying, boges are supposed to last longer than one day. Anyone else experience this?

I think it may just be a bad batch. As you can see above I was having similar trouble burning out a couple boxes of smoktech EMDCC's with my provari.

After the 2nd box was just about killed off in a couple days (1-2 cartos a day dying) I got a tank and some tank dcc and scc's, also from smoktech. I vaped two weeks off the first dcc, i'm using my 2nd one now not because the first one died but because the taste was getting a bit icky. Really saved my experience.

Maybe try nabbing a different brand carto and trying that for a bit?

Both Smok and Boge have similar problems at the moment so I am steering clear of them both at the moment. This has been happening from what I gather for more than a month (possibly two months). If it is a 'bad batch' it must be a biiiig one.

I feel for the vendors and the vapers who are being hurt by this.

I sent some pictures to Smoktech of a disgusting tank carto that was cut open after it started leaking nasty coloured liquid.

No reply, not even a "thank you, we'll look into that".

Here is one of the bigger threads. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ch-lr-1-7-ohm-xl-lr-1-7-ohm-going-around.html

It would be good if all the posts pertaining to this issue could be compacted somehow so it is easier to see the scope of the problem.

There is a lot of it going around.

Somewhere out there
I am also having some problems with Boge 3.0 SR cartos. I had to pitch 6 in a row, some did the high burning thing and were ruined and most act like they are clogged up and wimpy. I checked them on the provari, they are coming in at between 2.7 and 3 ohm, so they are in line. Out of frustration I tried several at a higher v of 5.3 to 5.5 and it worked! They would not vape at all at lower 4.2 which is my normal volts. It is really weird but at least I could salvage them at higher volts. I just got a few Phoenix bottom coil cartos to try, hope they work!! bnrk
