It's actually the vg in pg/vg mixtures that may cause issues with wicking in a cartomizer. Any juice with the vg ratio higher than 40% may cause some issue with wicking. However, many vendors will provide their juice in a thinner mixture if you simply ask for it in the comment section when you order. Or, you can dilute it yourself with just a tad of distilled water.

For your first tank, I'd go for an inexpensive but reasonable quality tank like the SmokTec DCT. They'll generally come with a dual coil cartomizer, perhaps with your oHm of choice (low or standard resistance), and a drip tip. I personally recommend the tube be made of polypropylene plastic (frosted, syringe type plastic) as opposed to the clear polycarbonate plastic which some juices can crack or melt. These can be ordered in colors or not. I got mine from My Vapor Store:

Your choice of 3.5ml or 6ml capacity and a 5-pack of single or dual coil cartomizers in resistances from 1.5-3 ohm. and a drip tip. Same tank available at PB Dragon.

The above cartos from MVS are not prepunched so you should invest in an inexpensive carto punch tool like the Siam Mods sold by Phiniac. Good to have one whether you plan to punch your own or not.

I'd also highly recommend a tank filling tool like what Big Daddy Vapors or Phiniac sells. These protect the end cap's 0-rings from the sharp edges of the carto, and make adding juice much easier. Although it is more expensive, I recommend the Slap-Yo-Mamma filling tool from Big Daddy as I feel it is a better design and easier to use. http://bigdaddyvapor.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=52&zenid=22oa7610a905uusvo8v3hu3a54

You can buy pre-drilled (punched) cartomizers from other vendors for an additional cost. My most recent order was with Smoktech.

I wanted to try some single coil cartos and got a few that were single-punched (for thinner or normal juices)and a few that were double-punched (for thicker juices). They obviously sell the dual coil cartos, too, as they were the original manufacturer of them. Whichever you decide to go with, just be sure you get the correct length (XL) and in stainless steel.

I've included links to vendors that I have had success with, and products that I've used myself and can recommend. There certainly are other products and vendors out there.
Most vendor websites have instructional videos on how to use their products, I recommend you watch them to avoid mistakes.

Once you get your tank, provide us with an update. :pop:

I'll second the SmokTech tanks recommendation, they're a great place to start. I've been using them for the last five or six months without issue. My preference is for the 1.7ohm single coil SmokTech carto which i get pre punched from SmokTek. As far as too much vg and wicking issues go, it can be a little bit of trial and error. Get yourself a carto punch and play around with different set ups. A properly set up carto tank is the best vape I've experienced in my over 12 months of vaping. When you get it right it's like taking a hit from a freshly filled carto every vape, all day long. I've tried lots of different clearomizers and ce4's (haven't tried the vivi nova yet) and none of them come close to the consistency of a properly functioning carto tank.

The tank itself doesn't matter that much outside of leaks. You'll adjust your hole based on your juice and your carto. Boge cartos tend to have thicker filler material and can tolerate a slightly larger hole than a generic smoktech or cheap carto which tend to have looser filler and if you give it too big of a hole it'll flood.

I've been using tanks pretty much since I started vaping over a year ago, the liquinators serve me well, they stick on the cartos pretty good and the caps on the alum and steel tanks are great. I also liked my lil mamma from big daddy vapes.

I recently got a little punch tool and tank filler thingy from phiniacs site (looks like a white delrin wedge) I think I'd prefer the big daddy adapter more now that I've used this one. The tank punch tool is great though, for 14 bucks it's well worth it. I recommend a little trial and error, always err on the safe side with your holes, make em too small and if they don't wick fast enough go 1 more turn on the punch, remember how many turns and you'll be able to replicate it everytime.

For me, using boge 3.0s and a 70/30 PG/VG juice I do 2 holes, 3 full turns each. :)

I agree with what Lance_Wallen said. A cheap but effective carto punch tool should be in every tanker's tool chest, and especially a tank filler tool. I also like the Slap-Yo-Mama tool from Big Daddy Vapor more than the Phiniac tool. It is a better user-friendly design. Not only does it protect your tank's inner 0-rings from the sharp edges of the carto, but keeps juice from getting into the air hole of the carto when filling your tank with juice...saves you half the time. Well worth the money, you'll be glad you got it.

I used a syringe for a long time to fill my tanks, it was pretty easy, pretty clean. Never really made a mess but I did notice that after I went from slotting to punching that the slight divet made by the punch tool allowed any juice left in the tank to escape when I had the carto pushed down far enough to get the syringe into it which is what lead me to start using the carto filling tool. I'm gonna get one of the BDV adapters soon, the phiniac one is fully functional but it's a pita to get out of the tank sometimes.

The other bonus to not using a syringe is I don't have to deal with weird looks when I pull out what looks like a drug addicts case and start to draw up a fresh needle of go juice.
