Hey all! I'm still fairly new to vaping and just recently got my first drip tip. I looove the idea of direct dripping so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm having a bit of a problem though, and I'm not quite sure why. The problem: While direct dripping via drip tip, I don't seem to be getting as much vapor production as when I use cartons. I've looked at many tutorials on dripping and all of the ones I have seen say "3 drops is all you need." Now that's what I've been doing. Should I be adding more drops or is that just the way it is with direct dripping?? Any insight would be very much appreciated.

P.S. Just switched back to my cart. Now I'm also noticing an increase in throat hit!! Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?!?!

It could be that you have LR cartos and a standard atty? Or it may be that you are flooding the atty with too much juice? You can just give the drip tip end a good strong shake into a paper towel and that should solve any flooding issues with a drip tip.

By a good, strong shake I mean whip or flick that PV hard into a paper towel.

If you need to use more liquid you will get the dreaded dry atty scorch. I tend to get more vapor when I use carts and when I drip I get I bigger TH and more flavor, I'm not really sure what is going on with your set up. My best guess was a flooded atty. It's not the drip tip that needs to be cleaned for that, the juice builds up in the atty when it is flooded.

I hear feel your pain on this one. I'm also new to e-cigs and they sent me cartridges pre-filled that I used and I was noticing that with those even after a little while I was getting the awful burnt taste...meaning, the cartridges weren't lasting me long as long as I expected. It turns out that it dries from the opening ( where you see the poly-fill) up to the whole you receive vapor from. E-juice also tend to get stuck up there. To solve this you can just drip liquid onto the poly-fill from the bottom opening when you taste the burnt taste, or use the direct drip method instead.

I got both cartridges and drip tips with my starter kit. Dripping became too much ALL day fuss . I wanted something that more convenient, so I purchased cartomizers. Less constant play, its a fill and go, which is what I need when out and driving. Although I do use the drip tip method when trying out new flavors. When I do drip I find 2 drips is perfect when dripping. When I do more I flood and leak juice everywhere.

Lee...I was in your shoes!! I kept putting too much liquid in, which kills the vapor production (it floods the atty and there isn't enough 'heat' produced) And if I got that part wrong, several folks will correct me, lol! I would use cartomizers, but I didn't like the burnt poly fill taste. Went with an eGo-T tank system for the simplicity, but didn't like the muted flavor that I was getting--MANY people have zero troubles with the tank, and it may work for you. I finally purchased a top-feeder unit called a VapeMate that has a bottle screwed into one part, and it feeds the juice into the atty so you don't have to remove the top, drip, repeat.

This is what worked for me, personally. Your solution could be something entirely different, and I'll bet several people chime in to help. Most veterans drip, I've noticed, because of the taste, so they should be doing their 'rounds and giving you advice. Hang in there! I am learning new things each day from this site. I am so happy to have found ECF and that you have too. We're in the right spot, Lee!

I find dripping to be a bit airier than a cartridge. With an Ego or Riva 510 you could use LR atomizers and then dripping might give better TH. You can't use LR atomizers or cartos on slim 510s - the increased current draw can damage the slim batteries.

I prefer cartomizers (Boge soft-caps) to either carts or dripping on my 510. I do drip when I want to try juices but I usually use a standard resistance Joye 306 atomizer on my 510 instead (and a Joye 306 drip tip).

A couple of "rules of thumb" to remember when dripping. 1) If it's gurgling and you are getting little taste or vapor, it's probably a flooded atty. Just take it off, blow it out, and drip a few new drops in and start over. 2) If it's a burnt taste, but still getting decent vapor. It's time to drip.

Have you tried a different atty to make sure you don't have a weak one? Some attys just aren't that good. Or, when we're just starting out, we may have a tendency to overdo it with them rather quickly.

Direct-dripping, if done correctly, is to improve TH, flavor and EVEN VAPOR PRODUCTION. This is a FACT. The reasons why some claim to get more vapor with carts could be basically because:
1. (When dripping) They are dripping too much and are not experienced enough as to fully realize, and/or:
2. (When using carts) Their set up is such that translates into more vapor production for the atomizing process occurs within the 'sealed chamber' and it atomizes not just what's on the coil but further more liquid (still this can be beated in terms of vapor production if dripping conditions are the right ones...).
Then again, dripping is probably not for every one...
There's a learning cycle... Getting to understand your atty's behavior takes a while...Bear this in mind; and as suggested, DO experiment...!

Dripping is the way to go for me. Just cant do it while driving. The carts seem hoackey to me. I think topping off a cart would be more of a pain then dripping. Ordered a drip tip today. Also a couple more cigs. Seems that buying starter kits is cheaper then batteries and attys piecemeal. On my 4th day with 510 and I'm in heaven. Great TH and vapor. Mixing my own juice using primarily VG. Still getting great TH with the VG. I typically put 3 drops in and occasionally get some leakage. I have flooded the atty several times but getting the hang of when and how much to add. Sometimes just dropping 1 or 2. I've soaked my atty in alcohol and it seems to come out like new. Also, blowing out the atty and cleaning it up abot really makes a dif. Hopefully will make them last longer. No analogs since Monday. what a breeze!

2 days ago, the only experience I had was with the eGo-Tank

Yesterday I did my experiments with dripping... very satisfying... good consistent vapes

Today I am trying a mega cylinder LR type B atomizer and mega tybe B cartridge

so far... this cartridge rocks ( for me anyway )... almost as good as dripping, and lasting me most of the day with consistent hits without topping off.

However... I do like dripping to try different flavors.

I hated dripping and always preferred 808 cartomizers until I debridged and dewicked my atty. Then it was a whole different ballgame.

It is funny, the only dripping I have done is with a ruined tank atomizer ( puncture plate pulled out )... no bridge, and no wick, I tried dripping onto the bridge of this LR atty and it wasn’t anywhere near as good as dripping onto that exposed tank atomizer
