ok ok everyone I am moving up in the vaping world (well momma said I could lol) but anywhoo I bought a cats rda to build quad coils and try my hand at that so I unpackaged everything and seen that it comes with 4 micro coils......hell yeah!!.....so to make a long long story short I built my quad set up now this is 26 ga kanthal micro coils (stock cats rda coils) each coil has 8 wraps and that should put me at 1.2 ohms on a quad set up corrrect? Now the coils are extremely close to the center positive post but nothing is touching anywhere whatsoever!!! But when I screw it on my ohm meter I get .03 constantly but also 1.2ohm and 0.00 why is this I am scared to throw this bad boy on my mech mod and give her a burn mind you I am using sony vtc batteries so 30 amp and yes I know about battery saftey thats why I have not done it lol please give me help or thoughts here is a pic of my build let me know if you need more pics

Figure you half the resistance when you double the coils so .3 sounds about right for that set up, depending of course on the diameter.

If the resistance is jumping around like that it is shorting and could be due to something being loose or touching where it shouldn't. Definitely don't fire it until you figure out why and correct it.

I would start by tightening everything up, the positive post, having 4 strands of heavy gauge kanthal trapped under the nut, is the most likely culprit.

On mine, the only way I got a good build was using vertical coils but YMMV.

so I have the positive leads stacked under positive post like cribbing is stacked 2 flat on the bottom and then 2 directly on top of that going the oppositr direction is there a better way to do this? And is there a reference out there that you know of where I can look up number of wraps, ga wire, and diameter of coils and relate that to an ohm reading?

There are a number of coil calculators out there that take into consideration wire type, wire awg or diameter in mm, inside diameter of the coil, number of wraps, leg length, number of coils, as well as parallel or series type builts; they usually request a target ohm measurement and fill in the blanks.

Google will be your friend on this one.

Take into consideration that heated coils do expand a bit and if close to a ground will short if contact is made, calculated ohms are nice but they need to be backed up with actual measurements and a visual test fire.

With a trap screw positive post you may consider building two coils on one wire (> <) where the pointed tip (the angle) of each v is looped around the positive screw and the two ends terminate at the negative terminals. This is less likely to cause a short and jumpy ohm reading.

In very general terms, quad builds use a crap ton of wire, take a perceptible length of time to ramp up and cool down.

Best of luck, and good for you not firing a questionable build. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Lol yeah but I really really want to fire and wick this bad boy and try the quad build lol but okay thanks for the info on building coils I will try that and see to get a better connection and I will try google again I have been looking but no luck so far on the google machine for that type of calculator

Okay ok so I took a couple vapes off it and I was impressed at the dense vapor thay it created but lol its a fire breather for sure 3 hits before dry I need to perfect my wicking technic I believe I was using a longer wick and feeding it through 2 coils and then in the juice well and under both coils what you guys think on this? Vapor production didnt seem to be more than my caterpillar but I am also having problems with my extender mod because I can push the button amd she is a no go no go at all I tell ya.......Jimmy did ya plug her in?......

Sorry, was leaving for work when I posted earlier and just got home. Sounds like Maurice got ya some answers.

I've used almost every wicking material out there and now use KGD cotton only, I find it wicks great, is easy to use and to reproduce proper sized wicks and imparts no flavor of its own.

The Cats was, for me, more of a flavor atty. Vapor production was good but the flavor was outstanding.

Hope you enjoy!
