A new article has been posted on the ECF Infozone: The Center for Disease Control continues to worry about a “gateway effect,” whereby teens who try electronic cigarettes will go on to smoke combustible ones and become addicted to nicotine. The report indicates a rise in e-cigarette usage among students, and a correlation between experimentation with e-cigarettes and with combustible cigarettes. This correlation has been [...]

Ouch.

I can't speak for the whole world, but in the UK if youngsters are using e-cigs (which they are, and in growing numbers too) and then Mr Mean and do-gooders in the government ban e-cigs, then I am fairly sure a lot of youngsters addicted to nicotine will take up smoking.

The only solution is NOT to ban e-cigs so people don't need to take this step.

(tongue in cheek argument....)

This makes no sense. Why would teens move from vaping to smoking? I began experimenting at the age of 9 and by 13 was a full time smoker. There is no doubt in my mind I would have stayed with vaping versus moving on to cigs. Cigs would have been disgusting tasting in comparison, no way would I have switched if I'd had the option. Kids won't choose something nasty, they aren't idiots. It's like the original authors forget what it's like to be a kid.

Somewhere out there
CDC is not making sense, don't they get it, smokers quit smoking using ecigs. Is there any evidence any where that a teen who tries ecigs wouldn't have tried smoking anyway? Is there any evidence that ecigs leads to smoking? Lots of evidence that ecigs lead to quiting smoking. They do not have enough solid fact on how ecigs impacts future smokers at all. bnrk

The "think of the children" argument is one of the best B.S. arguments that they have. Just mention to parents that (insert item here) is dangerous to their children and the uneducated will believe it.

It's all about power, control and money. The ANTZ want the power to control every aspect of our lives. The Gubmint wants their tax money from smoking and big pharma wants their money from NRTs and cancer drugs.

It's a dirty business, people.
