Hi. I am relatively new to vaping (about a month) and have primarily been using the CE4+ clearomizers as delivery system on my Riva. I have recently started trying out the SmokTech 3.5 ml DCT (LR) and have noticed that for the same amount of vaping, the juice lasts a lot longer in the DCT vs the clearomizers. Anyone have ideas on why this might be? I realize that the DCT hold about 1-1.5 ml more than the CE4+, but for the same volume fo juice, the CE4 seems to burn through it faster.

I don't know if it's related, but I also notice that as I get close to the bottom of the tank on the CE4+ that the juices start getting much darker and thicker. Not seeing this on the DCT. Any thoughts on this?

TIA, erik

Yes, these do use up more juice - that's why they taste so good!

When you vaporize a mixture of different liquids, at first the vapor is richer in the liquid with the lower boiling point. Thus, the liquid remaining becomes richer in the component with the higher boiling point.

In other words, you are vaping basically a mixture of two liquids - PG and VG. The vapor coming off is richer is PG, the lower boiling one. Over time, the stuff left in the tank is becoming richer in VG, which is very thick. Thus, the stuff at the bottom of the tank will be very thick.

Also, as you are heating the liquid, a small amount of decomposition will be taking place. The non -volatile impurities produced will usually be dark, thus the darkening of the liquid.

All this also happens with a carto, but you don't see it.

Hope this makes all sense!

The juice is also absorbing gunk off of the coil.

A new, or newly wicked CE4, 2 etc will run through several refills or more before the juice begins to darken in the tank. Even after a thorough cleaning, more so if it's not dry burned, the juice will begin to darken much more quickly than when the wick was new.

Thanks for all of the replies. @Morganmeltz, that makes sense, thanks.

Follow up question: What is the proper/best method for cleaning these? I have been simply dropping in a ml or so of vokda, shaking it up a bit, then drain and immediately refill with juice. Does anyone have a good set of instructions, or can point me to a thread that does?

Thanks again,

erik

I haven't taken mine apart yet as I'm trying to avoid cracking issues with the tube that some report. What I've been doing so far if a dry burn is needed is to unscrew the tip and with a small pair of tweezers get hold of the metal piece in the center and pull it up, it pulls cap up with it and the tube is barely wide enough at the top you can pull it completely out.

Then I rinse and shake till it's clean, blow out the excess water best I can and do a dry burn to clean the coil. Once that's done push the seal and metal tub back it, align the seal with the tweezers to get it started over the center piece and then insert the tip to push it back down in position.

I just a small pair of regular pliers. The tape is not needed IMO.
