CE5 top wick/coil problem

I got a CE5 from this place when i first started vaping like 3 months ago it was great but I ended up breaking not knowing what I was doing it. I eventually got to know what i was doing and have since had only BCC's well yesterday I got another CE5 top wick from that same place and I continually get a burnt taste even after I let it soak overnight. I think it may need another wick/flavor wick cause I remember my old had 2 wicks overhanging and this only has 1. But I've seen online CE5 top coils with only 1 wick & some with 2.

Can I use cotton somehow on top wick/coils as a flavor wick?

PS The wick isnt getting "pinched" by the grommet or whatever you call it on top coils.

If it were me, I would get rid of the silica entirely and rebuild the coil with cotton yarn (Peaches & Cream from Walmart). Those coils have a weird braided mesh fabric tube around the legs of the coil which I simply removed in the process of rebuilding. Seems to work just fine with only the cotton yarn, and cotton wicks much better than silica imo. Much better flavor, after the few minutes it takes for the cotton to "break in".

Generally a burnt flavor is caused by too little liquid getting to the coil. Might want to try removing the one flavor wick and see what happens. It's worth a shot before you go on to the rebuilding route just to see what difference it makes, and don't forget to tilt on ocassion, makes all the difference.

I either typed wrong or you misunderstood, I only have one wick (the one in the coil) and thats it. No flavor wick, I was thinking about adding a flavor wick as cotton, but have never done this with top wick/coils before (only with BCC's).

My mistake. I don't know what adding a wick on top would do. You say the wick is'nt pinched off, but that's the first thing I would probably look at and adjust if it was me, along with making sure I was tilting, of course. Sure, you can try using cotton as a flavor wick on top, it could create an even smaller space for the liquid to get through though, just have to try it.

Another possibility for the burnt flavor could be a singed grommit from dry burning, if you did that. If that's the case that taste won't go away as long as the same grommit is in there.

I just suggested that only because like I said the first CE5 I got from the same place had 2 wicks, but for some reason this one only has 1 wick. Since I don't have another wick that long I suggested using cotton cause I do have that, I was just wondering since its a top wick if I leave cotton barely sticking out like BCC's or attempt to make it long hanging out a lot like the other wick and again this is not "in the coil" I'm still speaking on top of coil (flavor wick).

I feel there's not enough liquid getting to the coil which I think you mentioned, so how do I correct this without buying anything? I do have cotton however and a very small wick (not even half the length of the one in the CE5)

BTW the burnt taste I speak of is the very harsh,very bad tasting, burns the back of your throat type taste, not a slightly annoying doesn't hurt taste.

I don't have a absolute foolproof answer for you, but i think I'd clean and dry burn the coil first. If I thought I could remove the existing wick, I would before the cleaning, and replace with cotton and see how it worked. You're sort of in trial and error territory.

It sounds like one of two things, assuming you are using the same liquid. First, the different wicks suggest this is either a different brand, or more likely, a different resistance than your first one. They can check the resistance at the store if you don't have the ability to do so at home. If this is a lower resistance, say 1.6-1.8 ohms, it runs much hotter than a 2.2-2.5 ohm coil and could cause this. Second, there is quite a variance in quality control among CE4/5 devices, so it may just be one with a badly wound coil, which can cause that burning as well.

Both possibilities can also occur with a bottom coil. Hope you find the answer!

Well guys here's what I did: pulled wick out of coil and manually rollled cotton (like a joint hahaha) got it a little damp with my tongue. Patiently took the time to put cotton into the coil (like thread & needle). Put a little eliquid on cotton, put original wick (that was in coil) on top of coil and put a little eliquid on it. Replaced plastic top grommet? piece, reassembled, so far so good. I'm going take some more hits and let it sit a little as well to see if this actually did the trick.
