Hey everyone,

Last year I got myself a Chalice rba, though I had trouble trying to get it to work correctly, and ever since it has been sitting in its case for months.

Anyways, I'm getting sick of spending so much on High end disposable atomizers which is currently costing me $80 per 10 atties. So I am going to try once again. But this time I am going to do my research before buying all the components, hopefully i'll have much better luck.

I'll be using it on a reo grand. Last time i was having trouble making LR coils, they were always coming in at 3+ ohms. I assume my wicks were too thick maybe?? (last time i have 3mm i think)
So this time I'm planning to get some 1mm silica wicks. What do you guys think?

And some 32ga kanthal a1??

Also, if I wanna try cotton, what kind of cheesecloth do i need to get again, i can't remember?
I did try looking for the cotton bandage in the pharmacies, though couldnt find 100% cotton.

Any other ideas or tips would be good!

Cheers in advance

I'm getting good results with the bleached, loose weave cheese cloth and also the makeup pads or rounds. I've seen several posts about cotton yarn being good but I haven't tried it myself yet. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ems/399511-cotton-wicks-rbas-suggestions.html

As for the Reo, I'd suggest a new post asking for recommendations on what would work well with it. Similar to this post. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...systems/410846-what-some-bottom-fed-rbas.html

Hey Dr, bro, the chalice is one hell of a fine bottom fed RBA. With the coil right over the juice hole, you can run some pretty awesome coil setups that seem to favor that relationship. My favorite on my chalice is the micro coil with a rolled cotton wick. There's a beast thread in the REOsmods forum called micro coil for the RBA on your REO that details this setup. The dude who made the thread is a dik, but the macro shots of the configuration on a chalice are informative and helpful. Good luck bro :)

I had phenomenal results with 30g 4/5 and 3/4 wraps around 2.5mm German silica doubled placed on a ZMax2. I got rid of my Chalice before I got my mechanical, I wish that I had kept it. (Yes the Chalice can be used without issue on a non BF PV).

Ah, your not missing anything bro, they ain't that great :). JK. I'm glad you decided to part with it my man :).

Excellent tutorial, never thought of using my 14g "base mix" needle as a guide for the wick to slip it back in! I'm running a Bulldog RBA with a vert. coil set up (mostly because its easier to get it in the middle of the RBA). The Bulldog has its posts centered, not off to the side like a Chalice, but getting great effect with a simple cotton ball I unrolled, split up and then roped.

The 14ga needle is handy, but definitely not a necessity. Equally amazing results can be achieved using any of the following as a mold:
Large, straightened out Paper clip
Small Nail
Drill bit (the smooth side)
T-pin
Small screwdriver

With a chalice, you can wrap a very tight, small diameter coil if using a cotton wick. You want to wrap the coil so that the loops are touching as much as possible.

The characteristics that make a good mold, aside from size, are good gripping surface, a "stop" to wrap and scrunch against, small and lightweight (so you can leave it on the coil when tightening screws).

A micro coil with a diameter of 1/16" or less and a cotton wick will have that chalice cranking out the hits.

Good luck bro :)

OK, I just built myself the best looking coil i've made to date, and tried using some rolled cotton as a wick.

The reason I gave up last time, is because no matter how many times I tried, I could barely taste my juice over a smokey type flavour.
Todays attempt, while looking nice and making clouds, was the same. It tasted more like smoke :(

I'm about ready to toss this expensive atomizer out my window lol, can anybody tell me where I may be going wrong?

I think it may be the burning wick I'm tasting. How thick should the rolled cotton wick be? When threading through the 14g needle, should it be tight or lose?

You can thread the cotton directly into the coil. You want it to pull thru the coil with just a spot of resistance. It is VERY important to get the wick COMPLETLY saturated before you fire it. The first several hits will taste sorta metallic, just squonk a few times more and it will be broken in.

Make sure the wick is good and saturated before you vape off it :)

Also, with a chalice you can push the coil down so its very close to the hole but not so close that it will contact the metal and short.
