It seems that, in an anti-terrorism measure, you'll have to prove that any electrical/ electronic device in your hand luggage has to be charged so that it can be demonstrated working to security personnel if challenged (BBC News - What do the new airport security measures mean for you?) so you may get a chance to demonstrate your vapour producing prowess (and blowing rings?) at the aiport! ;)

They must have received some intelligence indicating that terrorists may be using electronic devices to conceal weapons/explosives.

A recent TSA press release indicated that agents may require you to power up electronic devices like laptops, mobile phones and tablets. Not sure if they'd require the same for e-cigs. It wouldn't be a bad idea to ensure that whatever device you plan on bringing with you has enough battery power to at least power up.

Yeah, the BBC article (linked in my original post if you click on it) says: "...The general advice applies to anything "with a battery", so other items such as handheld games consoles and e-readers could also be checked." I don't imagine the BBC would even be thinking of an e-cig, but it certainly comes under the category of "anything with a battery" - especially if you're carrying a chunky mod! ;)
