Charger "whining"?

OK, the charger for my M401 is driving me crazy!!
Anytime it's plugged in, it emits an ultra-high frequency whining. Plug in the battery and the tone shifts, and actually intensifies. This thing is getting pretty near unusable it's so loud, and my cat hates it to.

Anyone else have similar experiences? The only non-standard bit is that I swapped the cord with my 901 charger, since it shipped with a UK plug. The input is rated 110-240 so I didn't worry. I tried delivering a solid *whack* to the case, but no change.

EDIT: Just purchased a new one, but still wondering how common this is...

my m401 charger is a whiner too ... joanna couldn't figure out for the life of her where the crazy noise was coming from until I explained ... HAHA ... to say the least, that charger has now be relegated to the farthest place away from our bedroom ...
