To avoid some of the general thread clutter and give some people that live chat feel. I'm sure it's been suggested before, but thoughts?

Confoosed about exactly what you are asking for in a feature, but I do believe the focus right now is moving the forum off this software onto a new platform, so to speak, and that is a work in progress. If you are looking for a new feature - that won't be happening within this software.
Live chats that are found at the top of some forums are server killers, especially on sites as large (and busy) as ECF. We do have a live chat option as pointed out by Woofer, but it's on IRC in order to conserve server resources for the forum.
