"cheap (but not crap)" is a colloquialism for: 'low price value'.
I've been reading this site for a while now. I've never seen a post where someone just keeps using the first eq. they buy. So I don't want to spend more than I have to.

You can go through the progression of buying crap and then finally figuring out what is good and works beautifully and buying that after one or two years of searching for something that works right... or you can skip the search.

I wouldn't vape a kanger tank if you paid me, I personally find them cheap pieces of #.. but some people like them so ymmv.

If you just want to spend as little as possible then follow @Coastal Cowboy advice... that will work the best for you most likely - although I'd not use a kanger product I'd look into the aspire titan tanks or the tobeco super tanks...

The problem is that most tanks which take factory made replacement atomizers don't make temperature control compatible coils.. more are making some but it's still few and far between so if you don't use an RTA then your exceedingly limited in choices period.

But following Coastal Cowboys advice - I'd get the Pico that accepts 25mm tanks (not all do) - that way you don't have to worry about the size of the tank your buying..

I never threw my Kangers, repeatedly threw my Aspire tanks. Damn things refused to break. Kanger STM and Toptank are imo are still the best most versatile tanks for new vapers. Broke my heart when I read they are no longer in production. Do hear good things about the Tobeco Super Tank line. I do agree if you go the Pico route you should get the Pico 25 85w.

Kanger Subtank Mini has been around a few years now but in my opinion is still one of the best tanks around. As already stated, you can get a RBA deck to build your own coils on. its a great little deck. Best of both worlds.
It not the matter of cheap tank or expensive, they all do the same thing. Its how much your willing to spend on the heads. That's where the money is.
My 5 years of vaping, building coils and the last 3 years with DIY juice. I've only really used 4 tanks and made sure they all were rebuildable in some way.
CE4 clearo, Protanks, Kayfun and now for the last almost 3 years Subtank mini. STM with the RBA is a great atty. Built .3 to 1.8Ω and handles it all easily. Easy to learn to build on and rather simple to wick, it the atty I would recommend if your lookin to buy. Lots of spare parts around, except for the bell caps you can buy, stick to authentic or problems could follow close from clone parts.
TopTank and subtank mini can interchange the RBA and base but I spent on the STM already and recently got a toptank mini, with the top fill its much superior to breaking the STM apart to fill.
Your vape experience is as good as far as your willing to go.

I found if I spent the extra few dollars and got coils etc from reputable vendors in the U.S. then I never had problems with aspire.. used those products to the day I quit vaping and my husband still does use them (we have Kabuki tanks). I'd recommend them to anyone..

I wouldn't buy a coil from fast tech though

Since others like Kanger, I will withdraw what I said..

Hey! Don't you be hatin' on my Kanger tanks! We wouldn't have tanks with coils on the bottom if it wasn't for them. Every MTL and DL tank on the market today is just another version of the Protank.

Yes it is, and don't argue. :D

Minor nit:

The SSOCC coils with SS316L wire in them are solid in temp control. It's why I recommend them and the Toptank and Subtank. The problem with many drop-in coils that are supposed to be temp control capable is that their resistance jumps around too much.

That's not an issue in wattage mode but getting the correct starting resistance is critical in TC.

It is true that if you're really interested in temp control vaping, you need to be using rebuildable atomizers. Sooner or later it will become a necessity, and it will probably mean going through several failures before the right tank hits.

Howdy and Welcome to ECF! My Dad was a farmer and he always save up his money to buy the best farm equipment he could buy. I think I was 11 years old when I when with him to buy a tractor. He looked at several different tractors and asked a lot of questions. All of a sudden he found the right John Deer tractor it was the best of the best. He took me by hand and said lets go home. I asked him why we left without buying it.
He told me it was more than he had. I asked why he didn't buy a cheaper tractor? He pulled the truck over to the side of the road and leaned over and looked me right in the face and said to me. Son! you only have to buy the best once! We will save up for the best.

Your father probably already knew what was the best for him at the time. This is not the case here. I would never recommend a new/newish vaper to spend on anything but budget until they knew what they enjoyed using.

Cool thing about the Toptank Mini (and it's older brother, the Subtank Mini): the RBA head that comes with it. With some stainless steel wire and some good cotton, you can have both worlds.

All three worlds, actually. Drop-in coil convenience, rebuildable coil flexibility and temperature control all in a tank that's under $30.
I was using the top tank nano and upgraded to the toptank mini. Big difference and I can build my own coils. I use the kbox with temp/wattage that came with it. I hear so much about the Eleaf that I just may have to check it out!

Amen....Never have had any issues with any of my kanger other than a few broken glass. Come to think of it, ya...protanks did begin the bottom coil atty.

I'm almost that guy ... everything I use is over 4 years old.

I only tried one device before I found what works ... also went from IBTanked cartos to the rebuildable tank I am vaping right now.

bought them used but authentic right here in the ECF classies ... still vaping them daily after 4 years.

Ive vaped on and own over 100 different tanks. I have found that, yes they all do the same, BUT, there are a few that do it really badly. Some just wont stop leaking, some too tighter draw and some not a good design.
