that is not a kick2.

It does work okay, but if the OP wants an actual kick2, I have only seen them selling for $45. I think RTD has them for like 44.99.

Given that, I tend to think Evolve has mandatory pricing for their vendors, so I think if you want the real kick 2, it is $45.

However, If someone knows of a place cheaper than $45, I wouldnt mind seeing it myself. :)

You guys think it's really worth it? I only have experience without one.

that really depends on you.

A kick is a drop in module allowing VW. It also provides some basic protections you dont have in an unregulated mod.

It basically converts an unregulated mechanical mod into a regulated one. If you are happy with the performance you get out of an unregulated mech mod, and know the performance of your batteries to determine when one is getting low(or have constant access to a multimeter), and are extra careful about preventing shorts(I would use a fuse at a minimum), as well as know your battery limits and ensure you dont exceed their amp rating, then a kick isnt really needed.

I have just started to get into mechs, so I like the extra layer of security of them while getting to know mechs a bit more. And I understand electricity(I was a nuclear field electrician in the military for 6 years, so I did not need any lessons on ohms law or battery safety...lol). For me, it boiled down to having a constant wattage as well as the low battery protection, so I dont have to worry about being out drinking one night and running my battery down to 2.4 volts or something. it does come at the cost of about 20mm extra in length to the mech, as well as the dollar cost.

There are cheaper alternatives than an actual kick as was posted above.

Basically, there is the Evolve Kick and Kick2. The original one is basically on clearance now for under $20. Then you have the Sigelei and smoktech versions. Typically can be found under $20 as well. The FT one is fairly new, and could be called a clone of a clone. It is the cheapest one out there. They all have slightly different settings(like max amp rating and min and max wattage as well as different low voltage cutouts). I dont know the difference off the top of my head, but someone else maybe better able to help you there.

I like it, using my mechanical and running a 1.5 ohm coil with nice consistent results, do you need one? not really. it just turns a nice mechanical into a nice VW mod. but is not needed.

if you are going to get one i would IMO suggest the real deal. it does work a little different then the copies as it is still Straight DC to DC, i have heard some of the clones are actually still PWM devices, but i do not know. in any case i would trust evolv's quality over a cheap copy.

Got mine from Altsmoke (Your Online Electronic Cigarette Store) They have a standing coupon code of EVAPE for 5% off, but usually offer better coupons on holidays. I picked up 2 of them at 20% off during a recent sale (think it was Labor Day, but not sure). Both have been working great. Check their FB page for codes. Kick 2's tend to sell out quickly, however.

I appreciate the info guys. I just picked up a couple clones, one if which nobody knows anything about so I'm thinking of grabbing one to see the difference in performance. If the performance drop is negligable I'll keep it in for safety.

These are the 2 clones I just grabbed hanging out with the egos. A Roller clone and a Cigreat QQ.

where did you get the roller clone it is my fav mech, even got the kickring to use 18650 kicked and am interested in seeing if the copy is comparable.

I got the Roller clone at Fat Daddy Vapes. Came with an UltrFire 3000mAh 18650 and a TrustFire 900mAh 18350 with a charger and a RBA. I needed the extra charger and batteries so I went with that kit.

Mechanicals - FatDaddyVapes.com - Home of the best vaping equipment, eliquids, and supplies!!!

Thanks for the info on the kick 2 gentlemen.

Greetings; Has anyone ever used an Artisan Crown (http://www.rtdvapor.com/online-store/kick-by-evolv-crown-by-artisan/crown-artisan-detail)?

This seems to be a pretty cool device. Though it only goes up to 10 Watts (like the Kick 1), it also does variable voltage, and can have settings changed without removing the device from the mod (there are beep codes for various settings).

But I have no idea about the build quality, and I can't find a website for the mfc.

Regards
Glenn

I bought the Crown 2.0 back in June from RTD. Was not happy with it at all. In most mods I found it hard to hear the beeps to do the settings. In some mods (such as a Silver Bullet) it’s almost impossible. Basically any mod with thick walls dampens the sound too much to make the beeps audible unless you hold the mod right up to your ear.

After less than a day’s use, it got stuck in VV mode and would not switch to VW. I contacted Artisan Vaping via email and never got a reply. Fortunately, RTD stepped in and allowed me to return it. RTD has great customer service!

I did finally hear back from Artisan. A little over one month from the time I sent my email they replied and asked for more info to help with the problem. In contrast, the two times I’ve emailed Evolv with questions about the Kick they responded either the same day or the next day.

I know sometimes things break right out of the gate so I don’t hold that against the Crown. However, the lack of support makes me leery of buying another one of their products anytime soon. As to using the Crown, unless you have really good hearing plus a thin-walled mod, changing the settings is far more frustrating a process than changing the settings on a Kick.
