I want to learn about watts and coil.

Well, coils will have an "ohm rating". That rating helps determine approximately how many watts you should set on your variable wattage mod. Coil manufacturers will often state a more general and broader "wattage range" to use with their coils, and sometimes a more narrow "best at wattage range", too.

  • 1.2 ohm Single Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Coil - 10 to 30W
  • 0.5 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 30 to 80W
  • 0.25 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 80 to 120W
  • 0.15 ohm Dual Ni200 Nickel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 400 to 600 Degrees Fahrenheit (temp control)

You should also note that these coils can be made from different types of wire: Kanthal, Stainless Steel, Nickle, NiChrome, Titanium. With some wire coils, they can only be used in wattage mode, and with other wire coils they can be used only in temp control mode, and with others they can be used in both wattage and TC modes. Keeping track of which coils use which wire and remembering what mode to use them can be confusing.

Although not written in stone, the following is generally true:

Heating Coil "Resistance", or "Ohms"

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Thicker wire (more mass) heats slower than thinner wire
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Thinner wire (less mass) heats faster than thicker wire
  • Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life

Of course, wattage is the value attributed to the power of the battery device. The wattage setting is controlled by either the up button or a down button.

Hope this information helps your understanding. Should you have further questions, please ask.

Hello and a warm welcome.

You will find this a great place with a lot of good information. It is the friendliest forum I have ever been on as well. Feel free to read, chat, and ask questions. Members are more than willing to share what they know.

I have no doubt that you have learned a few things over the past few years and can offer some information to others. Have fun!

Hi welcome to ECF, I'm sure you'll pick up the information you need. Are you wanting to know about different KINDS of coils (like higher or lower resistance) and their relationship to wattage, or how generally to decide what wattage to use with a particular coil (if so the manufacturer lists the coil resistance and recommended wattages right on the coil, it can be a sort of reasonable "range so to speak) different types of coils, how to figure out wattage etc, these are all questions that I'm sure you will get answers to, if you can get a bit more specific.

Welcome to ECF.
