I have a question for anyone that owns a King and a Chi You. I have heard it said that the King is basically a copy of the Chi You but I really don't have an opinion on that, or care one way or the other. What I am curious is whether one is actually better than the other, and if so, how? I have an hcigar King in route now but might consider a Chi You later on down the road. I have to wait a certain amount of time between mod purchases so my wife doesn't think I've gone completely crazy ;)

I have read negatives about the Chi You from King fans, and negatives about the King from Chi You fans. I'd like some feedback from someone who owns both. Thank you in advance for any responses.

Can't tell you about the clones since I've only had the King clone for a week to compare to the real thing. But from what i heard the King is very similar to the Chi in design, top cap and bottom cap other than the octagon rings. But the King apparently has less voltage drop and hits harder than the Chi You. There are always fanboys and haters. IMO most straight tube mech mods look alike, it really depends on what style you're into. I personally own a SS King and a Satin Brass King and they're awesome.

FYI, the king clone i got from fasttech, not sure which brand, the bottom firing button falls out all the time, but other than that its pretty sturdy and is 1/10 of the authentics price.

You mentioned HCigar, so are you asking about a comparison between the two genuine devices compared to each other? The two counterfeit devices compared to each other? Or the two genuine devices compared to the two counterfeits?

I would say general design.....because by all accounts a "good" clone/replica of either seems to be as good or better than the original. Just not insanely expensive.

I don't have a Chi, but I have what a local vape store sold me as an "authentic" SS King. It's my first mech mod and I love the weight, look and feel, as well as the nuts on it that keep it from rolling off the table :)

The thing I absolutely hate about it, and the reason why I ordered a side button clone from FT, is that I have a major problem with batteries that don't have a button positive terminal. I'll feel the damn thing firing in my pocket with the firing switch almost all of the way unscrewed and the locking nut fully locked down.. Scares the hell out of me when it happens. Earlier today I had it standing on my desk with a Sony 30a battery fully locked, button almost completely unscrewed from the firing pin to allow for more room between the battery and the top terminal. I left it there for a few minutes while someone was in the office then reached out to grab it and the fricking thing was firing the whole time with a minimal connection to the atomizer which caused the top King terminal to get hot as hell and cook the crap out of my juice and cotton but at a cool enough temperature so I didn't get the firing noise to alert me.

I don't seem to have any trouble at all with my cheap button top fire whatever batteries and it's not as much of an issue with my Panasonic which isn't button top but the positive terminal is slightly elevated; it's mostly these Sony ones with the positive terminal completely flush with the top of the battery. Anyone experience this with a King or maybe a Chi? After putting some new cotton and juice in my dripper I have it sitting again on my table but locked and mostly unscrewed. I've had the same trouble when I tried leaving it on it's side in the past too, now I try to unscrew the bottom and if it comes off I just leave the bottom cap off. My other complaint is having to adjust the top terminal for every single battery I have as they're all slightly different and if I don't, button top or not, I get either unwanted fires, crappy fires, or no fire.

Just my rant about the king, I probably should have posted this in a new thread but if the Chi and King are so close I'm curious as to whether other King/Chi users experience the same or have some tips on preventing this sort of behavior.

Haven't got my King yet so can't comment on the problem you are having battery wise as far as whether it's a common problem. I was hoping I was going to receive it today but last post office tracking had it leaving Phoenix this morning so it will probably be delivered tomorrow. ALthough I have nothing to contribute as far as your concern it does kind of reinforce why I am more of a clone kind of guy. If I buy a mech mod under $50 and it is tempermental and has to be adjusted frequently it is a minor annoyance at best. For $200 or more the same problems would make me furious. It seems like a lot (but not all) of the problems that the clones have the originals do as well, indicating a design "flaw". I have heard that Chi You's can be finicky and tempermental about different batteries, so would not be a bit surprised if Kings don't have the same issue, because they seem to be very similar mods.
A way that I deal with it that mostly works well is to dedicate a certain group of batteries to one particular mod. That minimizes the fiddling around I have to do every time I change the battery. I have a bunch of identical efest batts that are strictly for Nemesis, 4 identical panasonics that will be for the King, and the rest (my oddballs) that are for my telescopic. I know I didn't answer your question at all, my apologies.

Damn I feel like a ...... Of course that's what it was because the battery was uninsulated on the bottom edge it would rest against the top terminal and close the circuit on the side. I insulated the bottom edge and I'll be buying new batteries that are covered on the bottom. I'm sorry for missing up the thread, I almost want to buy a chi clone so I can help contribute now instead of complaining about a product that was only failing me because of my ignorance.

The King is clone of the Chi, o yea I forgot IMO. It was rolled out when unnamed vape shop fell out with Mojo. Sry for the tangent, please continue.

And here I thought the Chi was a clone of a Sparkplug.

I've been debating on a king or a nemesis, my local vape shop has both for $40 each

Buy the nemesis it's well worth it. I have a king nemesis and chi you (which isn't mine, borrowed) from what I can tell the king and chi you both function the same, same switch design, same pins, tubes and connections the only difference is in the logos and the locking ring on the top and bottom. This makes it pretty much a question of aesthetics. Personally I prefer the octagonal locking ring. But both should function about the same. If you can find one, I just purchase a clone of a contravene. I had never heard of this mod before until finding one on Ebay. But boy am I glad I bought it, same as the king/chi you but nicer machining, better looking and the switch and 510 pins work much better.
