And yet the greater majority of packages don't vanish until after being scammed into a USPS facility. Go figger!

Well "scammed" into a USPS facility is right. I am fighting the USPS now over a lost package. It was "Out for Delivery" on Dec 31st but was never delivered...to ANY address. Now it's status is "Waiting for Delivery Scan" meaning the driver was supposed to scan it when he put it in the box but never did. So either the driver lost it somehow OR the driver is so incompetent that he delivered it to the wrong address AND forgot to scan it. Either way it looks like I get screwed. USPS won't refund my money and the company won't replace the product since they did ship it.

I had a package that said it was scanned and delivered by USPS. It was NOT delivered to my mailbox. I went to my Post Office and was brought into the office and they tracked it to an address on another street half a mile from me. The ..... thankfully scanned it at the wrong address. They made the mailman go back and retrieve it and hand deliver to me personally with an apology. I guess I got lucky.

Good Luck! You'll need it with the USPS.

I just called again to day to get an update and USPS actually told me "We don't know where it is, you need to reorder".

I would go to the local post office and speak to the supervisor or post master. My roommate is a letter carrier and she’s noticed that people who show up at the office seem to “find” their packages than those that don’t.

I had one of those recently. Two packages delivered at the same time. Only one got scanned. That "awaiting delivery scan" remained in informed delivery for 2 or 3 weeks then just disappeared one day. At least I did get the package.
