I agree, it is an advanced product and I wouldn't use it on an eGo for just the reason you stated. I use them on my VV Gripper and the Provari becuase they both have built in ohm meters and protection against shorts so I won't ruin my PV. I can adjust the volts to them each time I put one on I check the ohms just to be sure it is still good to go, then I also use the chart above to dial it in range. But with an Ego you can't get a "true" output even with the VV.

With these, you always start low on the volts and slowly move up to your desired volts, this helps break it in slowly.

I was using a multimeter, it would read fine and then end up shorting out later.

Yeah, that happens too. With the PV's I have, they have protection against that so they don't suicide when it happens. They just throw a code and I know to fix the issue. Poor eGo's just self destruct. Don't get me wrong, I like eGo's and use them, but they just can't save themselves from these shorts.

Sorry you lost all of yours :( Have you considered a VV Gripper? It's less pricey than the ProVari, but has a few needed extras like the protection, it will read the ohms and won't opt out if the atty is shorting.

well.. thats a genesis for you.. you need short protection when level = noob

when you get better you can use a mechanical mod .. genesis is not meant for an ego.. since you can't change the battery so you end up ruining the whole unit..

try oxidizing your mesh quickly with torch before you roll.. you don't need to make your mesh burnt to black.. just a quick torch til it glows and that's it.. when i first started i used to roll and then torch and burn the crap out of my mesh for 30 minutes.. and still get shorts.. one day i took someone's advice and oxidized quickly before rolling.. then juice burned twice.. never a single short ever again..

The same thing happen to me until I found out I had a short it was the center post those cheep little rubber washers were broken I manage to put them together enough to work, haven't had a problem since .

Really? I think that might be my problem, do you mean the little rubber washer on the outside of the post or inside the tank somewhere?

Short happens mostly if coil is directly wrapped onto the ss wick. Some can do this successfully but others have trouble - force and evenness applied vary among people, amid other factors.
More robust ways:
Use cig paper or cotton ball to apply an thin isolation layer.
Wrap coil on a drill bit or metal wire or screw/nail that has the same girth as the wick, install the coil, burn it a little, then slide in the wick

There are many posts and videos can be found easily.
