The Sleeper Awakens
BY: Peter Truman
Feelings long pushed aside awake
My inner wall begins to break
My soul gives me that final push
And these feelings awaken my sleeping love.
And then uncertainty comes to stay
What if she won't listen to what I have to say?
I couldn't bear to see her run from me
And so I try to find a way to make her see.
My mind refuses to give up on this
It seeks to give a mental kiss
Slowly, gently, comments are made
And all the while I'm so afraid.
And what I feared starts to occur
What I finally said scared her
I'm witness to her closing off
I never guessed it could be this tough.
But then slowly, she started to listen
And better yet, to understand
My long dead eyes began to glisten
And tears began to cover my hand.
Never put aside what you have to give
And never fear what you have to gain
You need some emotions to really live
And this love is worth it, even with the pain.
