Cleaning Atty with Fire

So I've tried numerous ways to clean my atty and all fail eventually. I decided to smash one of my old attys apart to see what it was made of and found that there was a huge build up of what I believe is burnt e-juice. Now I know some of you wash your attys and then bake them and that seems to work, sometimes. I just decided to take one of my old ones that I knew was dead and place a match flame underneath it. I was assuming that it would burn all that gunk out. Then I washed it under hot water and dried it off with a paper towel. To my amazement, the thing works as good as it did, if not better than when I bought it. I can't say if the flame did any long term damage to it, because I've only been using it for a day. Has anyone else tried this?
