I've been seeing vids on YouTube about cleaning out clearomizers....specifically the iClear 30 and such to extend the life of the unit. I mostly use that and a few bottom coil tanks. Question though....I do have an iClear EP the utilizes the iClear 10 which is nice for the "on the go" situation....I have not been able to find a way (or video) on how best to clean them out....they don't seem to break down in the same way as the other innokin clearomizers....can they be cleaned and extended for furthur life?

I was rinsing mine under water and recently was told that's a no no (after ruining 2). I was told high proof vodka soak (let dry before using again) and dry burning coils as needed will prolong their life.

Be very careful with the Vodka! Very high proof will flame up even if just a little moist! Why vodka? would not any clear 80 proof or better alcohol work? If the clearo/carto does not breakdown for cleaning how do you make sure all the alcohol has vaporized out and it's safe to dry burn? I have problems with this method of cleaning, I do not think that water would hurt these and if it does they aren't worth having. Using high proof Vodka to clean with is about like cleaning them with Gasoline. I'd say spend a couple dollars and buy some that can be taken apart to clean and replace the coils in. You will be far better off :)

This is an interesting subject, as I'd like to get more life out of my iClear 16 TDC heads if I can. I use high VG juices. I have to. No choice about that, as I get a bad, itchy skin and throat reaction to even low PG juices, though I used to be able to vape PG without issue. High VG juices don't wick as well though, and tend to gunk up coils and wicks quicker, so that is a whole other issue I now must contend with. To help with this, I dilute my juices with about 5-10% of distilled water, though I'm now considering using vodka, as it apparently helps deliver flavor a bit better, and also can improve throat hit.

Normally I've not had much luck just rinsing and drying coil/wick heads to revitalize them. Sometimes I get an extra day out of such heads. Sometimes they are still no good despite the effort. I would use hot running water, then let the head sit in a shallow isopropyl rubbing alcohol bath until the alcohol dried away. I'd do a final rinse with water after that, then hand dry, leaving the head out to air dry another full day or so. But, like I said, that only sometimes works. I've never really dry burned before, as I've been concerned about the silica wick burning, or overheating and destroying the coil, or both.

As I understand it now, the silica wick doesn't really burn, and the coil should be safe from destruction, but I should rinse thoroughly after the dry burn? About how much am I dry burning? For how long? I have a variable voltage/wattage iTaste v3 I can use for this. Should I bump up the voltage when I dry burn? If so, how much? Right now, at best, I get about a week's use out of an iClear 16 TDC head without any maintenance, which is better than I was getting with my old Kanger T2 TSC heads. The Kanger T2s were actually not bad, as they never really had any leak issues, while the iClear is a little more fiddly when it comes to that (juice buildup in the mouthpiece over time), but the iClear 16s deliver much better flavor and vapor, and seem to last at least twice as long. I only got maybe 2 days of good use out of the old T2s.

I also have a EHPRO Kayfun Lite Plus V2 RBT, which I've been able to make coils for without issue, but have not had much luck successfully wicking for my high VG juice. I regularly get dry burn hits. It's annoying. The Kayfun holds 4.5mls of juice, which is great. It also gives great vapor and flavor, when it isn't giving me dry hits, but it is also very large and heavy compared to a regular clearomizer tank. I got it for use with a Smok Prospect e-pipe mech mod, but together that makes for a heavy (though compact) setup. I'm leaning towards just using the iClear 16s (or EVOD) clearomizers mounted on a Kanger EVOD 650mah batteries for out-and-about everyday use. I'd like to be able to get more mileage out of my iClear 16 heads if I can though, as I've spent plenty enough dough on all this e-cig gear recently.
