Cleaning empty juice bottles

Remove all labels first. Then I take a baby bottle nipple brush and scrub out any bottles/caps that need it in warm soapy water. Then I put them in a pan of soapy water with a very carefully measured "glug" (ha ha) of white vinegar and put them on a burner over low heat for a while stirring every little while to be sure they are immersed. Don't get the water too hot on the burner or they will melt and get misshapen. I then empty it all into a colander and shake the liquid out of them. Then I put them back into plain water again over low heat for a few minutes and stir them up with a wooden spoon to rinse the washing solution thoroughly out of them. Then back to the colander to shake out the excess and let them air dry in the colander. I eagerly await anyone else's responses as they may have a quicker easier method than I do. However, they do come very clean for me.

Thanks for the response, sheryder! I'm down with the baby bottle brush idea, but the rest seemed a bit more complicated than I have the patience for. You gave me a good idea, though. I'm going to put the bottle in the little bottle/nipple cleaning cage and run it through the dishwasher. Hopefully it won't melt!

I gave up on reusing the plastic bottles. It's so hard to get the old flavor out of the plastic. Possible, except for some flavors, but is more work than I'm willing to do.

What I ended up doing was buying glass bottles from here. They'll ship small quantities, and the prices are pretty good. I clean them by running the big ones through the dishwasher, and hand-washing the little ones. I haven't found the need to use a bottle brush... vigorous shaking does the trick.

P.S., don't run the caps through the dishwasher. It'll destroy the cap liner. I just rinse these under hot water and call it good.

When I order flavors in 30ml bottles I just empty them and reuse when I diy a flavor that corresponds, ie strawberry flavor will be used for strawberries and cream or strawberry shortcake. Saves all that cleaning. I read somewhere to put the bottles in the freezer for a week after they are cleaned (rinsed out well)and that is supposed to get the smell out.(?) Never tried it but worth a try.

i soak mine in lemon juice overnight in a tupperware container, then run through the dishwasher (top shelf). the removable dishwasher basket allows for small bottles, but the dripper top is still too small. i keep that in the lemon juice or vinegar, then rinse with soapy water.

im sure the turkey baster technique that some use to clean cartos would work well too in a pinch.

Why not just soak in 99% iso alcohol overnight and then rinse a few times and let it dry fully?

Is that a bad idea? I don't see an issue if you rinse it and let it dry fully... Also even if there is a drop of alcohol left in there somehow, figure 0.03 ml left, in a 10ml bottle that would be a fairly insignificant amount considering...

Let me know
