Okay, I'm terrible for cleaning. I have authentic mods and have cleaned them maybe every couple/few months with soap and water.
I finally am taking the brasso to the mods. Some over a year
So I don't have the liquid one. Just the saturated cloth one. I rubbed all my contacts and maybe 5/10 min later and rubbing and buffing them.
They have come up very well but not 100%. If I take more time and soak them in brasso in the future is it possible to get the pieces looking 100% new or is some damage irreversible?

Thanks

Mothers polish is what I use. Weekly, I clean my mods. No patina (in my experience) has been irreversible. Try the Mothers polish paste, get it in the automotive section, it's actually a mag wheel cleaner.

Thanks very much. Although a weeks patina is different from a year? I'll try it anyway. I've also got those little arc/arch marks on some of the brass contacts. Can those be cleaned completely?

I don't like Basso, Mothers or any other Polish that is petroleum based. I use Wrights Copper Cream, it's formulated for cookware and is nontoxic. It works very very well with little effort.

Lol. That box mod must make the room twice as big ;)
So you think I'll get these mods top notch as well?

If there are scratches I will use emery paper depending on how deep I will start with 400 grit then work up to 5000 grit. To remove oxidation from contacts I'll just use 3000 or 5000 grit. I rarely use emery paper, only when needed with is rare.

My normal routine is every couple of weeks touch it with Wrights and every other day or so use a Sunshine Cloth.

Be very careful with mother's mag wheel polish. Its very abrasive and can remove details.
If you like Mother's brand, try the liquid "Metal polish" its less abrasive and works great.

I despise Brasso,,reminds me of Military School.
I use Wrights products on my beloved Mechs.
For arcing, i use a 'pen' with stiff carbon fibers. There is no name on it, made.in UK were about 10 bucks at Amazon..
Pen sounds excellent, I'm going to do an amazon search

You got a link or something I can search for on Amazon, only thing I'm coming up with on Amazon is carbon fiber pens, wraps, etc.

I dont see how that would work.
Carbon fibre brushes are extremely soft.
They are used to clean Vinyl records and wont scratch them.

Maybe its the terminology.

You're right,, i have over 1200 LPs, still play them. I'm going to Amazon & look these brushes up properly.
They are fantastic for getting in tight places & cleaning up Alkaline Green emissions.

Here goes,,
EuroTool
Sratch brush 12.40 usd
Sold by Atlantic Deals, fullfilled by Amazon
Purchased Feb 24 2015.

Had to search by my old orders, still available.

Someday I'm going to learn how to post a link! On my phone..

Thanks daviedog. After close inspection, I've decided I want three new gus switches now...
My heavy handedness has given some dents to the threading. Not on the outside where the tubes make contact.
They are on the insides so you can't see it but i know it's there :(
Now you do too.

Good to know for the future though :thumb:

Dont forget that for GUS switches and most well made quality delrin insulator switches , a short soak in 100% pure acetone keeps things nice and clean.

Got that tip from Mr GUS himself :)

Thanks for the great info on those EuroTools, got one coming.

I also use only wrights liquid on my mechs. I was told by most modders its food safe and one of the least abrasive.

Many have told me to be weary of the sunshine cloths as they can wear out engravings , logos and decorative designs. I use the sunshines on my contacts and clean off with high percentage alcohol or acetone.

I wash all my mechs with Dawn weekly, and use a soft toothbrush on threads and then finish off with acetone. Dont use acetone on special patinas and other color coatings. It can take off krylon, and other metal paints. I know this from experience, also make sure not to use acetone where anything has an oring or other than delrin plastics..... It will melt and weaken it.
