That depends on the clearo. I have 4 different types. One type came with my kit, ce4+. I can't leave that on it's side for more than 10 seconds. Another I ordered separate but from the same supplier as the kit, cheapest ce4 (fasttech.com). As a test I left that one on it's side for over 3 hours, no problems. Another I don't know details on because it was given to me, can be on it's side for a little while but not too long. The ce5 I have seems pretty solid but i haven't put it to a test yet.

I always clean new hardware, since you never know what's been left over from manufacturing.

I've occasionally found a coil that wasn't snug, which in the worst case would not make contact to the inner post, and not heat up. Or maybe the "worst case" would be that it did heat up, but didn't seal, so you don't know about it until it leaks..........

But if everything is snug, and the drip tip makes a full contact seal on the silicone rubbber tip, it's usually OK to lay them on their sides. There are lots of variables in these cheaply made (and sold) devices, and V_Bear's advice is spot on - lay it down for a couple minutes. If you then get gurgles, figure that one needs to be kept up.
