Hi all,

I've been vaping for about six months. These days I'm happily using an Innokin iTasteVV and a Joye Ego-T, with an Innokin MVP on its way. At first I used CE4/5/6 clearos, but have since moved on to iClear 16s, and I much prefer these. Here's my question, is there a better clearo out there? And what are the differences between top and bottom coils? Hmm that's two questions. I vape a strong menthol liquid pretty much exclusively, if that makes any difference when choosing clearos.

Thanks!

Thanks Vapntime. I'll give the Vision Victory a go. And State O' Flux, I'm going to try the iClear 30 with my next Heaven Gifts order.
I'm sure you know this already, but the best way to get an iClear to leak, is to over-tighten the tube... other than that, enjoy, and welcome to ECF.

ok, total noob here (hi!) but my boy friend and I both just started Vaping and both use the Innokin iclear 16's. He swears he read on myvaporstore.com that you have to use ONLY a 50/50 PG/VG juice blend with this one cause it gunks it up and then parts need to be replaced.....but I cant find ANYTHING to support this online....Has anyone else heard this or had this happen? im just getting too much of a throat hit so i wanted to make adjustments to my juice....Thanks so MUCH!!!

My choice is a BCC for a cooler vape. Top coil closer to mouth so warmer vape. I use the New Joye BCC with Type A atomizers, iSmoka minis and T3s minis. No leaks on any of them. The Joye BCC is a totally different design from the other two with air holes at the top rather than in the threading area which pretty much ensures they never do develop leaks but the startup price will be higher. The price of attys looks higher but isn't because they last longer. I've tried EVODs which now use ProTank heads that taste nasty to my particular taste buds so the 4 I had were given away to those who can't taste what I do.

BTW, I think the iSmoka is the same as the Mini Vapeonly. The only drawback I've heard is its not for pocket use as it might snap/break off. If using your own drip tip is an issue, the T3s won't let you do that.

I've got some Iclear 16's that I run various juice mixes in, for 100% VG to 80/20 PG/VG and I haven't had any problems with them. I just don't seem to enjoy them like I do the Kanger PRotank II's. Much cooler, more airy vape. I like my lung hits and the 16's are not all that great for that IMHO. That being said, if I'm headed out, I slip on a 16 as they are smaller and lighter.

That is complete nonsense. Also, there is no mention of this on MVS anywhere.

If you are getting too much TH, if you have a VV device, turn down the voltage, or use lower nic juice. The iClear 16 is a top coil design, so the vape will be stronger by default when compared to a bottom coil design. A high VG juice might have trouble wicking, which can be easily solved by adding a few drops of distilled water to the juice, which will help wicking without affecting flavor or nic content.

Welcome to the forum Amy.
Well it's not really nonsense because every clearo will eventually need replacement parts. Best thing you can do to prolong the life of any clearo is to give it a rinse with hot running water every 2/3 fills. This will help rinse out any gunk and keep them working longer. Eventually, after a few weeks, you'll notice the performance drop-off and then it's time to replace the coil, or head as some people call them.

As most clearos use silica wicks in them, the thickness of the juice affects the way the silica can carry the juice to the heating coil. So using a thicker juice (which means a higher VG ratio, which will reduce the throat hit) means that you may possibly have some wicking issues.

Wicking issues mean that you may experience a dry hit, where there is not enough juice on the wicks and so you end up vaping super-heated air. Not pleasant.
You can minimize these dry hits by 'doing the clearo swirl' to move the juice around the clearo to come in contact with the wicks between draws, and taking longer but slower pulls. You can also add a few drops of distilled water (do NOT use tap or bottled water) or vodka to your juice as SBR suggested.

I've used 100 VG in some clearos and with a little adjustment to the way I vaped them, I could avoid dry hits almost entirely.

I've been using the protank mini 2 for the past few months and couldn't be happier. I've tried the iclears (use too much juice), smoktek aro (leak for me), and ce4s and the protanks are still my favorite. They are glass so you can put any juice in there and the heads last for weeks if you wash them out/dry burn.

I like my iClears, too, but if you use clearos you should also pop for a Protank just to try. The Protanks give you a cooler vape and some juices taste much better with a cooler vape. Whenever I try new juices now, I like having both a cool tank and a warm tank to test with. I've had certain juices that tasted pretty blah on an iClear end up tasting great in a Protank. Conversely there are certain flavors that come out better in an iClear.

Thanks soooo much! yes ive read that the thickness of the juice can also depend on function, so just to be safe I did go ahead and get a glass/pyrex tank too. Should that be appropriate for a thicker juice? (hehe the clearo swirl, heard of that too!) Also thought that i read somewhere in these forums that it isnt the pg/vg mix, or the specific brand, but the flavorings used in the juice that can destroy a clearo? is that accurate? and how in the world would one know if its gonna murder your clearo until its too late?

The iclear 30 is great for flavor but has leaking problems. For less flavor and hit the vision vivi nova performs very well, it never leaks. The vision victory is also a great clearo but it the metal mouthpeice gets pretty hot past 4.3v, the draw is great though. my advice is save up for a kanger protank or protank clone, best flavor hit and clouds. The trophy tank by smok tech is a great option.

Most online stores give a list of juices that aren't for use with plastic clearo's. I believe there's a list floating around here (ECF).

I know from experience that cinnamon red hot (like the candy, not the cinnamon roll) can mess up your tanks. Some liquids can cause cracking or clouding, or "melting". Pyrex is safer. I've heard citrus flavors can cause problems, too. I use a protank and the mini version mainly. I have an evod, too. I use creme de menthe and spearmint flavors in that one. So far no issues and it's plastic. I prefer the bottom coil myself.
