Since this thread has already gone sideways (big surprise), I'll offer the Super-T Workhorse as an example of a reasonably priced, American made mech mod. The recent reviews have been very favorable. It's simple, functional, authentic, and doesn't look like a gold plated adult novelty item - for $70.

Super T ~ WorkHorse

Super T is a great example of a high quality authentic modder who doesn't overcharge.

When this discussion happens, every time people ignore the fact that most of the proven, top notch modders do not charge over $200 for their mods. It's just the johnny come latelys who are cashing in on a fad that are doing it.

A year or so ago, $180 for a non telescoping mod was high. Heck, you can buy Atimizoo, Gus, Poldiac, SuperT, REO, (the list goes on) for less than $200 all day long.

Just the new stuff, with unproven switches, iffy designs, and logos straight outta Ed Hardy's nightmare caused by bad sushi, that charge over $200. And people snap them up...

As a matter of fact, the Silver Dog hybrid that I am vaping right now came with three tubes, AND the atty, cost me $109 shipped to my door.

As for OP's question:

I wouldn't buy a Manhattan regardless of clone or authentic. I had always found the fit and finish on the on the low side, and the Naval Brass Nemesis hits just as well, as does some of the brass GP mods. If you want something special, the Bay City mod is the way to go, and is beautifully made to boot.

An authentic Manhattan always struck me as a $80 - $100 mod. Achieving good conductivity is not expensive, or even difficult to achieve.
I have gotten .002 drop at .3 ohms with copper sheathing, a PVC pipe cut to the correct length, and a 510 connector and switch from a Vanilla clone.

Hmmm... I have one of the red manhattans from this "dumped" batch. The machinist chose to upgrade the switch to give it venting, and added a pin to keep the button from coming loose. Aesthetically, the only difference that I can see is that it has no AV logo. Other than that, and the lack of the box, it is the same mod. I am trying to verify that they were actually made in the US though. There was a rumor that they were outsourced overseas. I am trying to either prove or disprove that rumor. (I absolutely hate rumors and drama, but so be it.)
