My big guy was in a 20 gallon. I had no idea how big they got when I bought him. We bought the sixty gallon just for him. Luckily the Bristlenose won't outgrow my twenty gallon.

Mine was a smidge over 19 inches when I let go of him. He was so much fun. His tank was always a mess though because no sand in bottom and I fed him thinkgs like cucumbers, lettuce and such so it was daily tank cleaning for me. I could hand feed him but nobody else.
