Just got my velocity. 1st build on it. 24G N80 dual verticals. 1/4" ID, 14 wraps, .48 ohms. Makes serious fog at 80W with the airflow about halfway open. You could do the same thing with kanthal, but the resistance and ramp up time will increase. Throw more watts at it to compensate.

Bigger clouds are a function of airflow vs surface area of the coil that's actually in contact with the wick. Smaller gauge wire (like 28 or 32) will actually put more metal on the cotton. It takes less power and ramps up faster too. I'm loving the velocity because you can get a ton of wraps in it to increase the surface area. That vertical build was my first try in it. I will likely swap that out for a horizontal, dual coil, 2 or 3 strand parallel 28G Kanthal build in a few days. I just didn't feel like jacking with a parallel coil at 6 am.

Not sure. I just got this atty myself. It seems to have plenty of airflow to keep the build cool. I would say cram as many wraps in there as you can, open up the airflow and let 'er rip. Start low on the watts and crank it up til it gets too hot. This is 8 wraps single coil 2 strand @ 3mm ID in a plume veil. 30W is all it can do with the low air flow. But the clouds are thick and warm.

If I build using more wraps won't I need more wattage ? I always thought lower resistance means more vapor

Yes, more wraps needs more power, but there's a trade off for surface area. Low resistance builds were a necessity in the dark ages (like 2 years ago. Lol!) before regulated mods. On a mech, you have to go low resistance to get clouds. The newer, high wattage regulated mods let us put a ton of metal in because they have the power to heat it. On a mech, the best you can hope for is around 85W on a fresh battery, and it tapers off as the battery loses it's charge. So, to get a decent vape that will last halfway through the charge on a battery, you have to build below .5 ohms. On a regulated mod, you can build over 1 ohm with smaller wire and actually get bigger clouds. But you need more space for the coil.

All this is referred to as heat flux?

I recently started using the Velocity Mini. Have only tried one build in it. It's just a plain jane dual coil, single wire per coil. 26 ga if I remember correctly. .43 ohm. I can see where this atty would shine with a more high tech coil build on it. No real complaints with the current coil. But I know it could be better. Therefore, I'm going to check back on this post too see what others suggest and to see what OhmzRaw built.

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. It's actually a 5 wrap parallel. In steam engine, you calculate it as a quad coil for resistance. 4 wires, 5 wraps each.
Thanks so much for that, I was always confused as to working that out. By the way, do you know of any other cloud chasing builds? I'm trying to get a build for insane clouds. Let me know what you have in mind, you seen very knowledgeable in this [emoji4]

I'm not a coil building guru by any means. Lol! I just know what has worked for me. But claptons work pretty well too. I only wrapped one pair and I swore I'd never do it again. I wrapped them by hand and it took forever. That was 6 months ago and they are still going strong though. 26G wrapped with 32G, all kanthal. 6 wraps @ 1/4", .26 ohms. 80W minimum to get them hot. Flavor is great though and they make decent fog. I tried a couple of twisted builds, but they don't seem to do much for clouds. Standard slick coils and parallels seem to work best for me but YMMV.
