My DIY quest is to replicate as closely as possible Dekang's coffee flavor.
I'm failing pretty miserably.
None of the flavors I'm getting seem quite right as even a starting point. I guess what I'm looking for is more the strong taste of the coffee bean itself, but the flavorings available all seem to produce the muted notes of an actual coffee beverage. The TPA coffee flavor I got smells and tastes exactly like a bottle of Allen's coffee-flavored brandy, and the Lorann tastes like the steam coming off a freshly brewed cuppa.
Is there anyone out there who's been around the block with the coffee flavors who could maybe point me in a different direction? Should I try alcohol extracts instead of PG-based flavors?
I dunno.
