We freshly grind our beans every day anyway for our morning coffee. I have several gormet whole bean roasts that I'm going to try. Also have some starbucks whole bean. But the best whole bean we found for our morning cup beleive it or not is our own local supermarkets brand (Shoprite)

In making coffee, finer grinds exposes more surface area = stronger flavor like the expresso grinds. Also using more coffee will strengthen it as well. I think the oils most ppl are concerned with are the lipid fats / fatty oils and I don't think that's the type of "oil" in coffee. Maybe more of an acid? I know longer brewing (like letting the pot sit all day) will tend to bring out more of the bitter acid in coffee. I don't know how any of this applies to extractions though. I'm just thinkin' out loud I guess.

I agree. The way I did it was easy and produced great coffee flavor (better than any I've purchased), but he just may have a better way.

So I tried my D&D Caramel Coffee Cake just for fun. It has ingredients that I wouldn't suggest vaping, so I didn't plan on using it much and wanted to see what happens. Something happened to the flavor in the extraction process though, and let's just say it wasn't worth trying. Lesson learned. ;)

Oily beans(possibly over-roasted) is a coffee bean I usually ignore. Since that accounts for a high percentage of coffee beans sold I look for a medium roasted coffee. Also, I roast my own coffee from green coffee beans. Mainly because of espresso... Coffee beans that are less than a few days old or more than 2-3 weeks from roasting will not produce a (god shot) while making espresso. Since commercial coffees are either too old or burnt I stick with home roasted when it comes to espresso. So anyway there are many variables with coffees as well.

Most flavored coffee is done with guess what? Food safe flavorings. Sound familiar. So you could take your coffee beans put them in a jar and add a teaspoon of flavoring, shake and let dry you got flavored coffee beans. I avoid flavored coffee mostly because they smell up my coffee grinders. With that said could the flavors contain the D word, yep. Fine I guess as long as you are not inhaling your coffee. LOL.

So I tried a coffee extraction myself but not sure of the dilution ratio so I started at 10% dripped then went to 20%. Not sure yet. Will let steep if it needs to. Otherwise, I dripped it straight and it was good so not sure at this point.

glad i found this thread. i was on one the other day that had extensive coffee extraction posts. im new here and i cant find it now :( anyway, someone came up with this method: take like 15 or 30 ml of pg in a small glass container. add the same amount of coffee (of you choice) and stir. the pg should absorb the coffee. then put that into the microwave for 10 seconds, no longer! then add 15 or 30 ml of pg to it again (this part/amount im pretty sure of). put that into a hot pan of water (almost boiling), turn off heat and let it sit for 20 minutes (until cool). then take the mixture and filter it with a coffee filter and funnel into another glass - some people let this drain overnight, others found different ways to press the juice out. voila perfect diy coffee flavor. i did it last night with fairly good results. i didn't have enough pg to get good results but it tastes better than vendor flavors. pretty sure i mixed it at 5% coffee and 2% bav cream. it was ok. i want to do some more with a lil more cream and a better coffee extraction. wish I could find the original thread, lots of people were lovin this.

Check my blog (little number under my name - to the left of this screen) and you will find the process I admit I "borrowed". I think JimiD posted this months ago - but I cannot find the original post in order to give real credit...

Anyway, this process makes some good flavoring. Cheap, too.

Rowdy,
I think this may have been the thread. Coffee extract posts start at post #7 iirc.
