Coil and Wick Questions...(sorry, I'm a newbie)

Okay, ECFers...quick question that I couldn't really find an answer to after hunting in here.

Got my first rba today (please forgive my naive-ness here). I got the mesh wick rolled just fine and got the coil wrapped around, and it lights up okay...some definite hot spots. So, as I am working at re-positioning the coil, what exactly am I aiming for here. I keep moving the coil around and see that I am getting rid of the hot spots, but I don't exactly know what I'm doing. I think I want the wick and the coil to be close but not touching.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I wrap touching, pulse with low voltage, move wire/bump wick to get initial hot spots out. When you cant get them all glowing it's usually a short. Check for steal hairs at the top and bottom, see if the wick is touching the bottom and for it pressing to hard around the wick hole.

you are trying to make them glow as close to evenly as possible. there shouldnt be one or two coils glowing first then the rest. when you press the button you want to see them almost all light up at the same time. poking at the spacing is what does it. fire, adjust. fire, adjust .
