coil head to tall for my vivi nova

Hi all! I bought some replacement coils yesterday here in town at my local shop and discovered today that the coils are to tall. When I put the new coil on the center post and then try to screw on the top of the tank the top can't screw on because the coil is sticking up to far. So I hopped online looking up pics/vids of this stuff and noticed that some folks use what looks like the coils minus the pointy part that sticks out through the hole on the plastic cap. At least it looks like that piece was missing in these pics/vids. Sorry I don't know the actual name for the pointy upper most piece of the coil. Would the coil function properly without that piece?

There are two major companies that make 'Vivi Novas". Vision is the original and Smoktech (aka "Smok") is the other version. Their heads are different and NOT interchangeable. The Vision version uses the heads with the flat top, and the Smok version uses the heads with the pointy top.

It sounds like you have the Vision version of the tank (which is good by the way) and the local shop sold you Smok version heads. You should return them to the shop and explain what I just told you here.

Unfortunately, coils for top coil units are NOT standardized, and do come in a few incompatible lengths.

Taking off the metal cone won't help, as that's probably not what's making it too long. Likely the shaft length, or the length of the threads. The ones you describe sound like Vivi Nova heads, which may or may not work in your device. Best bet is to go back to where you got the clearo and get heads from them.

Generally, when I get a new topper, I get a few extra heads at the same time, to avoid that issue. (Although I also rewind my coils, I like to save up a bunch to do at one time.)

I had no idea the vivi's were made by two different companies, so there be my problem! Thank you! My sis bought me this tank and she says it's a Vision. Scott, thank you for the link!

David, I think you're right, I think it is the shaft now that I've looked again. What does rewind mean? Is that the same as replacing the wire?

Probably more than two companies! Much of the industry is clones of something. Much of it works fine, but compatability would sure be nice. Best we can do is find what's working for us, and "stock" only that.

Yes, rewind is to replace the wire. Pretty simple, although delicate work.

Just to update: I went back to my local Vape shop and explained to the owner what was going on and he honestly didn't know about the mismatched coil issue. He apologized and stated that I would have to go online to purchase the coils I need. At least he knows now, so this has been a good lesson for him too.

i found this issue from the coils available from fasttech as well. it is pretty frustrating, but at least it is a learning experience for everyone.

Hopefully, Penny, your local will also start to stock the right coils for the clearos he carries!

In a perfect world, all top coil units would use the same heads, all BC ones ditto...

But if we can't have that, maybe world peace and respect for all living things?

The smoktech vivi has the pointy heads, the vision ones are flat. I only buy or use vision, I have not had good luck with the others.

While I prefer bottom coils, I do have Novas of both flavors. The Vision leaked with its original head, but was fine with a different one. Maybe the factory messed up on the head. Never had a problem with the clone. Go figure...

IMO, a lot of the issues we face are due to the nature of cut rate manufacturing, and a little TLC on our end can usually make it right.
