I've seen the new coil wrapping jigs that have come out the past year and they are certainly an advancement in our hobby and Atomizer Building. Yet all these jigs require the user to pull cotton, or other material, through the coil after it has been created - and that is fine for some rebuidables because this is the only method to build some RBA's.

Now, sometime I require a coil to be wrapped around cotton string and it can be very difficult to pull cotton string through a coil after the coil has been made. For instance when I make a new wick and coil for my Kanger tank Pro especially when I have to use a smaller gauge wire like you see from the manufacturer's - around 30-32 AWG for higher resistance builds.

Any ideas would help, the current jigs are not generally built to put cotton string on the device?

For my Kanger Builds I use to use needles a few inches long, wrap a little piece of wire around each side of the cotton string/wick then take my time and wrap a new coil around the String and needle. I would have to wrap the wire tightly so the string would take up the room on the pin I used.

I wonder how the manufacturer's wrap their coils in china? Remember they have to wrap thousands of coils per day, and I doubt they are doing it by hand.

Any Idea's would be appreciated. Perhaps we could make this post into a "THINK-tank".

Gracias

How would you burn in or heat condition your coils prior to wicking?

You would NOT burn in your coils, unless using stainless or silica.. It's not really a requirement anyway. You Device will vape without burn-in. just not always as well.

Any jig will work, like you want. basically it's the same as you are doing now.. I would just use a mandrel smaller than target. Check into building your kanger heads as Vertical coil. Wicking and rewicking is simple, Vapor and flavor are improved. I generally run a 30-31awg 1.8-2ohm single vert coil in my Mini PT3 dual coil and PT1 single coil heads.

OP, the idea is good for ss mesh builds. but for cotton and kanger builds, i know of a simpler way to wick them. maybe it would be a good solution for you (if youre not already aware).

wrap your coil, pulse out the shorts. then to wick it, fold a slender wick over a piece of kanthal, folding both in half, creating a chain link. then feed both ends of the kanthal through the coil, slowly pulling the wick into the coil.

If you havent already noticed this problem is the exact reason micro coils in things like subohm tanks have the cotton wrapped around the outside. Cause they havent figured it out either.

Ever seen the assy lines? Check out pictured on busardo's site of the massive assy lines with 60 + people building heads.
