As many know here, I got my First REO, in fact it is my first time with making coils and wicks. So of course I have a question. When I first made the coil and wick I thought it was GREAT! Now after a few days with the same coil, I think it is even better. Is that considered a norm?, or is it my imagination. It just seems to me to a better draw and flavor. I thought possibly the coil is breaking in, heating better but not sure. .. Also how often should I change the Coil? I rewick daily, oh and last night I gave the REO its first bath as per the video elsewhere on the sight, Which leads me another question... How often should I give my REO a bath. Is once a month about right? Thanks all

Randy

coils will season and get better after a brief break in. I normally fiddle around change my coil long before it wears out. Once in a while get a broken wire at the post from moving the coil around. You can use a coil until it breaks and rewick as needed depending on your wicking media.

I normally give mine a bath around once a month.

My coils seem to be lasting longer on the reo than they use too. I've been bathing mine twice a month but I don't think it is necessary. Should just clean it when it needs it I suppose. I am new to them but absolutely feel in love with them. Good luck to ya and happy vaping. Have you already started thinking about your next one. I have. ;)

Also welcome to ecf. It is just a wonderful place to get help or support on anything. Lots of fantastic people here. :)

Randy, I find a new atty will get better over the first few days. Also, things seem to improve for quite a while as you get used to a new Reo. Good that you like your first coil. For some people they have to build many to find what suits them. I got lucky (like you) and pretty well nailed it from the start. Many coils can last a month easy. I rewick when the flavor starts to drop, could be one day, could be 4 days, depends on the juice used.

And the wicking material used.

You guys with your fancy cottons. I'm using cotton I stole out of the first-aid kit at work. I bought 24 feet of 2mm solid core ekowool and it just sits now. I chastised cotton for years but ekowool in a Reo just isn't the same as first-aid kit cotton. What benefit does this Kung fu cotton provide that apparently I am missing out on? I have to cut my Mt Baker juice 1:4 as it is now because the flavor is beyond overpowering.

The best cotton I found (in Australia) happens to be the cheapest cotton balls I can get from the supermarket, it works fine. I got some more expensive medical grade cotton and didn't like the smell or taste. The Shiseido cotton has not arrived yet, I wanted to see how there could be any improvement :) Diluting standard juices 1:1 is still too strong for me, plus I'm vaping unflavored half the time, the way things are going I have enough flavored juice to last me a long, long time.

I'm in the same boat as you on juice, I cut my MB red bull clone juice 10ml's of juice to 40mls of vg 1.8% and it is still to strong but I'm out of room in the 50ml bottle. When I was using genesis the stock juice tasted great.

I broke down and ordered a pack of that Ken Go stuff from Dermstore for $12. I figure even if it terrible I can gift it to my significantly better half.

I'm getting my first Reo today but have been using my KFL+ with Hana V3 at 1.1 ohms. I'm still using the original coil I built almost 3 weeks ago. I was so happy with the cotton ball wick I made and the way the juice tasted I completely forgot to take it out and replace until yesterday, after over a week of vaping. It was still good but the coil definitely needed some love. I just quick pulsed and dry burned, rinsed off coil under running water, dabbed dry and was good to go with same coil. New wick took about 1/2 a tank to get the flavor back to where I was happy but cranking out flavor again! As others have said, I think it depends on your wick and juice. Some tend to crud up the coil faster. Since I'm using NT almost exclusively now (yes, that's right Clark!) there are some that crud up the coil faster than others.

After vaping on the new reo for 5 hours or so I think I'm going to try a coil around .7 or .8. 1.05 I built is ok but am thinking a little more oomph may be in order. I'm really impressed so far with the flavor and not used to the no burnt taste part I sometimes get with my other atties. Vape seems a lot more consistent with Reo and LP RM..

These guys answered your question. Standared 30g Coil replace 2-4 weeks ish or till it fails; Cotton needs replaceing 2-3 days; One should always practice proper hygene but i bathe my REO once every 2 months.

For quite some time now, I have been using Mundy's Magic wire (twisted flat kanthal) which will last about 2 months; I have also switched to ReadyXWick (ceramic wick, heat treated XC-116) and I've had it in for 5 weeks and with a quick dryburn it looks brand new. So pretty much I only have to change batts and add juice for two months before I recoil rewick and bathe. :D I'm lovin the low maintenance

I also notice an improvement on my vape after I've used my coil a bit. I guess the coil settles down after a few drags and the wick seats in better after a few hits.

For the wick, I use this cotton:

Mothercare All We Know Extra Large Cotton Wool Balls - toiletries & accessories - Mothercare

It's pretty coarse, and slightly browner than the regular cotton balls from the drug store. It has nice long fibers and does well for my wicks. One ball lasts me for months with me replacing my wick every 2-3 days.

Cleaning a micro coil and re-wicking it is a pretty easy process. I take out the old wick, wipe-off excess juice then do a dry burn for a few seconds by pulsing the switch. Then I take the atty out and clean the mod's plumbing. On the atty, I simply place the top-cap, cover the airhole with my finger and blow hard through it. I then re-install it on the mod, remove the top cap and fill my juice bottle with warm water then I squonk until it's empty. I repeat the process until the water coming out is clear and the tube appears visually clean. I then take my atty off, give it a good rinse and dry everything up.

Once the atty is dry, I do one more dry burn to vaporize any water remaining then I re-wick. The result is a clean vape and a long-lasting coil. My current coil has been in service for around 3 months now. :)
