I have watched many tutorials on building your own exotic coils, too much of a hassle for me though.
But I buy all kinds of exotic coils here. From dual, triple and quad core fused claptons. To framed staple coils and aliens. Works out cheap enough if you buy the mass produced ones from hellvape or vandy vape or wotofo. I gues it all depends on how low you want your build to ohm out.
Sometimes I like it around 0.18 ohm and just take long, flavourful drags with my dead rabbit v3 airflow half closed.

Other times I go around 0.12 ohm and high wattage. Big clouds and warmer vape.
I go way closer to 1 ohm when I can. I generally try to keep it near 3v. Current coil is .47, so im running it at 19.5

The mass of the coil will determine the heat up / cool down time of the coil. More metal, takes longer both ways. Doesn't matter what kind of resistance wire or it's shape. More metal takes longer.
Yes this is true, but if you go and look at the physical properties of kanthal and N80 of the same weight you will find kanthal takes longer to heat up and cool down. Just like N90 heats up quicker than N80. Every metal has different properties doesn't it

My suspicion is some sort of not fused Clapton with a fairly thin core to keep the resistance up for MTL. Fused Clapton is low resistance sort of by definition, as is alien. A MTL exotic coil would be high resistance so “dead metal”
Well as I mentioned, I use vandy vape fused clapton mtl coils. Ohms around 0.74. Works very well for me personally

Oh I agree. We would both probably not be described as full on MTL vapers though. The old term for DTL vapers was “sub ohm”. Meaning less than 1.0ohm. Were both that.

I vape mtl, wind to about 1.5 Ω, and when it creeps up near two, recoil. Typically about 8.5 watts.

Well, I am an ex smoker, so I also vape the vaporesso xros 4 mini. Love the o.8 ohm pods. Great flavour and some clouds.
But yea, sub-ohming today has changed the game a bit.

Check out this app. It's called ohm vaping. It has a watt calculator.
You enter your resistance and it suggests at what wattage range you should vape at
