Hello,

I'm new to building coils and I'm a bit confused with the different types of coils (cold, hot, etc ) and (micro, nano, etc.). I'm looking for maximum flavor, so what will be the best kanthal a1 gauge be? And what about other build parameters?

Thanks
What will you be running this in(atomizer) and what will you be running it on(mod)? Also, what have you used so far that you liked?

I'd suggest starting with contact coils(wraps touching), they're the easiest to build consistently. If you can, start with a single coil, 2-3mm inner diameter. Get that working well, and your wicking figured out, then duplicate the coil and put in a dual coil. Start with the basics before moving on to more complicated builds.

Fair enough, I will start with your suggestion. May I know how many wraps should I start with?

Hmmm ... What's the main difference between lower and higher resistance. I'm currently using 0.5 replacement coil and seems to be fine. But if I go lower, what will the advantage be?
Typically, lower resistance means thicker wire, which gives you more surface area to vaporize the juice on. However, you have a regulated mod so you can increase the power if you want so there isn't too much of a benefit to lower resistance. It takes some experimentation, there are a lot of things that effect the vape, resistance, power, wire gauge, inner diameter of the coil, number of wraps, distance from the air hole, atomizer chamber size, and probably more that I'm forgetting.

The good news is, you can build a good performing coil easily, the rest is just tweaking.

ETA: I use mechs, so resistance matters more to me.

Main Difference : The voltage and amperage required to result in a given wattage.

The advantage in going lower or higher depends on the size of wire used to build the coil and the power a which it will be ran. You might take a look at a coil building program like Steam-engine.org. You can play with different builds using different types and sizes of wire. The key gauges will be the Heat Flux (potential coil temperature) and Heat Capacity (coils ability to conduct that heat). The higher the HF the hotter the coil, the higher the HC the more HEAT the coil can generate.

if you go to a lower ohm/higher wattage you will also need to lower your nic level quite a lot! or you will feel like its burning your mouth and everything, nic lvl makes a huge dif on the comfort. just thought i'd throw that at ya! :)

generally smaller id coils will give better flav but i use 2.5mm id coils with 5mg at around 70w at the mo, so long as you get the coils as close to your airholes on your atty as humanly possible without actually touching you will get good flav, also make sure the air can pass undeneath the coil/s.
i tend to place my coils just ever so slightly above the airholes rather than directly face on or below.

just do basic coils like contact coil, it doesnt have to be perfect ;)

Thanks a lot everyone for your advice, things are much clearer now :). The only thing I still wasn't able to figure out is, how do I know the maximum wattage that my coil can handle?

Simple, it will melt and break... Chances are it would be too hot to vape long before that though. Again look at Steam-engine.org, will help build the coils you want.

Alright guys, so I have built my first dual coil and the cloud production was wow. But the flavor is muted, so I tried using one spaced coil and it still didn't improve the flavor. So I need help in making my coil more flavor intense. I'm using evic vt regulated mod with Mutation X v4. I've built my coil using A1 24 guage Kanthal, 8 wraps reading at 0.9 ohm and 0.5 with dual coil.

With my Mutation V4 I run with only the bottom air holes open! The side air holes seem to dilute flavor for me! Mess with your airflow!

Ok guys. So I have started building my own coils now :D. The problem I'm facing is that the first get a metallic taste and the coils rusts after a day of usage. And yes I'm sure its rust, since the cotton color changes to orange/brown. I assume the coil I bought isn't Kanthal A1, although I've ordered an A1.

Anyhow is there a reliable seller or amazoon or other site that you guys can recommend for buying wire??? Or maybe a specific brand?

Waiting for response.
