Coil types?!

I've always wrapped 8 wraps of 28ga Kanthal on a 3mm mandrel to get somewhere around 2 ohms in my kayfun 3.1. Anyone tried using a 2mm coil ID to get more wraps for the same resistance? Wicking would be smaller, but more area would be heated. Is it worth my while to give it a try? Steam engine says 12.84 wraps for 2 ohms.
ETA: I just wound a coil with 13 wraps on a 2mm mandrel after annealing with a torch. I test fired it and compressed the coils together with tweezers. 1.88 ohms and a much wider length between the posts. Flavor is noticeably better and vapor is more voluminous. I'm sold on wider width and smaller coil diameter. I was a little concerned that wicking would be too thin at 2mm, but it's keeping up at 10 watts and performing admirably. I turned the coil 45 degrees to the screw posts and laid the tails horizontally on the coil deck.

I have had similar results. More wraps on smaller ID giving more flavor.
