Hello good folks of ECF - newb question here.

I have been reading a bunch here and am a bit confused with the terms 'Coil' and 'Micro Coil' when discussing rebuilding. I think the two phrases are interchangeable but??

I don't believe I am ready to start this process, however, I am trying to absorb as much knowledge as possible.

Thank you in advance!
Bob

As said, micro coils are just how the coil is wrapped; typically around a 1/16" drill bit, heated and squeezed until the wraps are all touching, and then wicked after that, often with cotton.

A micro coil can be super-ohm or sub-ohm. The resistance of the coil is independent of the form. Some try to say micro coils are better than sub-ohm coils. That's like comparing the color green to the shape round. Many of us use sub-ohm micro coils.

i just tried a micro coil on a 1/16th bit slipped some cotton in it .....wow although its a igo-l it never worked better..i am ordering a russian 91 soon..i want to get away from buying coils..i am going to try this for my pro tanks next

Cotton wicks in a Protank 2 are awesome.... I have saved all of my coil heads and have about 40 - 50 sitting waiting for me to rebuild when I have some free time.

I use primarily micro coils in all my builds. Like the consistency, quality and ease of build, whether they be standard ohm or dual coil sub ohm builds. They heat up fast and provide great vape. To me hand wrapping is just so Neanderthal.
