Coils

Hi. I'm new to rebuildables. I have a few days under my belt and I seem to have wicking and wrapping coils down well enough that I can have some decent vaping. However I continue to get the same problem:
-My coil takes so long to heat up. It takes about three seconds before I hear any vapor being made. What I usually do is let the coil heat up for three seconds then release the fire button. then immediately fire again and vape. this works for me. I can also have another vape with no problem a second after. but, once the coil cools i need to do this again.
-I notice that a freshly charged battery diminishes this to about two seconds.
-I have no air flow or wicking problems. If i draw too much without firing i have been flooding my cotton. So I know that is working.
-I have a dual coil build with Awg 28 Kanthal A1. 12 wraps at 1.3 Ohms.
-I use a fogger v4+
-I use an itaste SVD

Thicker wire and/or more wire will take longer to heat up. If you knock it down to dual 30 guage coils with 7/8 wraps, you should stay at about the same resistance, but it will heat up a bit faster.

For comparison, a single 3/32" 28 guage coil at 1.9 ohms in my kayfun takes about 2 seconds to warm up (judging by sound). A single 30 guage coil at 1/16th" with the same resistance is pretty much instant.

As others have said, wire and wraps have most to do with it and when you are using two coils keep in mind that the resistance (even if it's 1.4) is spread between two coils not one. That being said, if the two coils aren't pretty much identical what you are describing will happen. Make sure your coils not only have the same number of wraps but are also positioned in about the same spacing. You want both coils to heat up at the exact same time and glow about the same. Also, you have to take into account the material your posts and pin are made of.

What voltage or wattage are you using.

28 gauge, 2.6 ohm coils. Am not surprised they take long to heat up.

Yuppers. Thicker = heat time. But, it also ='s more surface are which gives more flavor. The Alex Mundy coil has more surface area than any other coil Ive ever tried and it is a friggin flavor monster. Clouds awesome as well. But the 6/7 1.1ohm wrap it takes to work in my vv/vw at 15watts takes a few seconds to even begin to kick in. I have gotten in a habit of pressing the start button about 3 seconds or so before taking a hit. Thing is, I dont even think about it any more. If I ever go back to regular kanthal wire Im sure I will burn the hell out of some wick material. Then again, why the hell would I ever go back?
