Compatible with 901 ????

I need some extra supplies (atomizer, battery, empty carts) and contacted puresmoker.com by email a few days ago but no one has responded (yep, I checked my spam folder). I can't find a phone number for this place.

Does anyone know if the products from puresmoker.com are compatible with the 901? And I have no idea if it's generic or the real deal or if that even matters.

They should be. I haven't really heard of anyone having difficulty buying DSE901 parts from other suppliers and not having them work with their current DSE901.

on puresmoker.com it doesn't say specifically "901" it says something like classic penstyle, I guess assuming one had bought their starter from puresmoker. Of course, I didn't

Classic Penstyle is not a 901 it's an 801. The Pocket Mini is the 901.

I thought I would throw my experience, or lack there of in here and maybe it can help both of us. I bought a 901 from one company and liked it, then I bought another one from another company as well. Although the parts 'seem' to work together, they don't seem to work together perfectly. Here are the differences.

1. The first one has a brown, flat (but thick) cartridge tip. The second one has a black, flat, but thin cartridge tip.

2. The first one has a battery that you have to draw harder on but you can set it on a table and blow on the tip without it coming on. The second one has a very easy draw, but if you set it down somewhat hard, or blow on the end of the battery it will turn on.

3. The atomizers look identical. However, the hole on the battery which connects to the atomizer is smaller on the second one (the one that draws easy and turns on easy).

My concern, although I like the easier draw of the second one, I don't like the fact that a small breeze, or it bouncing on something turns on the battery. So now i have to decide if I just mix and match parts or go with one vendor.

Can someone explain the differences between the batteries? I'm thinking one is activated through suction and one is activated through something else (mic?). Which one is better? Personally I am concerned about a battery that turns on if there is a light breeze on it or a bump, although I do like the easier draw.

These are my first two e-cigs. I'm wondering if I should stick with the 901, or move to something else long term? Or maybe just get Trogs scredriver and use that as a power source, and just use the 901 atomizers.

Katy at the smokelessshop.com has all the supplies you need for the 901. I am still using the original starter kit that I got at the end of Feb. I have purchased new batteries and atomizers just to be on the safe side, but have not had one fail me yet.

CaseyNY, I bought mine from best e cigs and it draws easily but also, a slight breeze will light up the battery. It was a concern of mine to mix and match but as a newbie, sometimes I figure the best way to go is to just experiment. At times, my 901 will be hard to draw on. I've found that if I take tweezers and move around the cotton wad, it draws much easier, like new.
As far as mixing pieces from diff vendors, I'm gonna try it from several, whoever is cheapest here & there. If it doesn't work out like I want it to, I'll decide on a single vendor but that already seems hard because the 2 I like most are ALWAYS out of stock!

There are (at least) 5 different mouthpieces now, round ones (i know at least two different styles of round ones)...then black/flat....white/flat....two-piece

you dont blow/suck on the battery...its the atomizer. I only had two 901 for now, there are (at least) three different kinds atomizers used in the 901, and yes, one had a easier draw than the other.

I havent seen one lighting up by blowing on them...neither has any lit up by setting them down. Sounds odd to me.

There are certain tolerances with all those 901 - even if basically the same they can all vary in terms of performance.

What you describe, with blowing on them or bouncing them and it turning on sounds like something worth returning....probably.

But then....if it doesnt really affect your vaping...shouldnt be too big a deal?

Thanks. I asked teh first question because I was hoping that someone might say 'the first one is a 901 because those all ship with that tip out of the box', or they may say, 'The second one is a 4075 because it always ships with that type of tip out of the box'. Apparently, or maybe that isn't the case.

The draw is definitely, in this case, a function of the battery, and mainly the switch in the battery. I think what I have here is the first one is a pre-2009 model and the second one is a 2009 model. I think this because, if you do a google on 'mic switch on 901 battery' you will find an article where they talk about the mic switch on teh new battery.

All in all, after using this for a day, I like it, except for one thing, which is it is pretty windy here today, so I have to keep the end of the e-cig cuppoed in my hand or esle the wind would keep the battery turned on.

I personally have noticed, with my meager experience with ecigs that when my battery gets low (useably low, but not out) I have to draw much harder. Once a fresh battery is attatched, it's like brand new. If it's the atomizer, where can I buy the atomizer with an easier draw. I get lightheaded sometimes ...and not from too much nicotine ha ha

Hey What-A-Gem,
What I'm noticing concerning draw is a couple things. The first is that the atomizer does not effect the draw at all. What does effect draw it seems is the battery (the mic battery draw is easy, the other battery, which I think works on suction is harder to draw. The other thing effecting draw is the stuffing on the cart. The brown tipped cart that I got with my original has tightly packed stuffing. The black tipped cart I got with the new one is loosely packed, almost sponge like and the draw is easy. So the combination of the new mic battery and the new tip makes for a very easy draw. The combination of the old battery and the old cart makes for the hardest draw. Mixing and matching carts and batteries puts you someplace in the middle.

Again, I don't think the atomizer effects draw. However, upon closer look, the atomizers between the old and new do differ some. They differ in the fact that the heating element inside the atomizer protrudes out further on the new atomizer. What effect does this have? It appears to last longer and draw more liquid out of the cart. A big bonus! So overall at this point, I like the newer 901 better. Easier draw and more juice is withdrawn from the cart. As for my concern with the battery coming on in windy conditions, that still exists, but it was very windy here today and I just cuped the thing in my hand, or stuck it in my coat pocket in between drags.

I occasionally use my tweezers to loosen the cotton, or move it around about half way thru its use. It seems to hit a little better, although I am still leanring. I hear it is bad though to use a very dry cart. I just ordered a starter kit from a diff company. It was cheaper than ordering the pieces I wanted seperately so I will see how this one is, and probably play with mixing and matching. My batteries don't last too long at work lol!

Yea, I hear ya! I really like the size of this thing, but the cart/juice needs to last longer and so does the battery. I guess going with the Trogg SD would solve the battery part. I realize it is expensive at like 150 bucks, but it should last forever, or be able to be repaired. If you figure batteries cost you on average 10 bucks a piece, that is only 15 batteries, and from what I've read, that may only be a year or so, so you could recover you money over time.

As for the carts/juice lasting longer, I think long term someone has to design a better way for delivering the juice. In the meantime, I've almost gotten use to just throwing in 3-5 drops into the cart before I vape it. The only time that is a major pain is driving. LOL
I was fine talking on the cell phone and texting on the text pager while driving, but doing those and filling the cart all at the same time I'm driving is a tad more difficult. JK!!!!

heh, i hear ya! Each night i pack a pack of cigs, stuff into my purse for the next day. Likewise, I've gotten in the habit of getting all my ecig stuff ready for the next day. Although I do have a bit of ocd ha ha!

Yes. I took one of the boxes my ecig came in and pulled everything out of it. I carry a couple carts in it, a couple juices and 4 901 bats. That was until this week. I got a screwdriver Tuesday. So at this point I hope to just carry a spare SD battery, a spare atomizer and some juice. The SD is nice because the batteries on the originals kind of suck. more cart life would be great, but good to go for now I guess.

Have you seen that the 510/Dura carts fit 901 style atomizers? Whether you stick with 901 batteries or get a Screwdriver (which of course I recommend ), you owe it to yourself to try these carts out with your 901 atomizers.

They have a round mouthpiece, which is hard for me to get used to since I became accustomed to the more common ecig whistle types, but they hold a lot more liquid than the 901 carts! Makes them feel almost like a penstyle in terms of time before topping off.

all the 901 parts are interchangeable though they may vary slightly in appearance..........just a tip an old eye glass case the hard ones make a decent carrier for your e-cig afew atomizers extra tips and a couple of small bottles of juice

Yea - the 510/dura carts do fit on a 901, but it's such an easy fit that if you lean forward the 901 battery and atomizer fall out! Also, the cotton seems to get stuck on the 901 atomizer every single time.....

I, too, like the tip/shape of the 901 carts - I have not gotten used to the flat round mouthpieces. I actually bought a cigarette filter/holder, and sawed it short, sanded and filed it down, and it fits on the end of my 510 carts so the tip is like a 901 - the draw is MUCH better and gives a much improved throat hit for some reason. Obviously it's a pain to make, though. Or try buying a black and mild cigar thing for a buck, tearing off the rubber mouthpiece,and shoving that on the end of the 510 mouthpieces. Similar, but I thought too soft.

I wonder why carts for 901s dont just come bigger? Seems a simple solution....does anyone know if penstyle cartridges fit on a 901 atomizer?
So far my best draw is from a 901, best cartridge in terms of liquid holding, is the 510, and best battery is the manual led-less for the 510, but I dont like having to push the button to vape every time

Has anyone used an original 1-hole penstyle? I want something that vapes similar to a 901 and has a similar shaped mouthpiece, but doesn't weigh a ton. I've never used a penstyle....I have a feeling that it's too heavy to just leave hanging out of your mouth like a 901.

Any opinions?
