Hello all!

So, I have spent roughly the last three hours on here lurking the forums, reading posts, and watching a few videos. The topic of electronic cigarettes has recently been popping up in conversations at home-I've heard my mom mention it a few times, just very briefly. She has heard about it, heard that it is smoke-less, and less expensive than keeping up with the analogs-look! I've even picked up terminology :D
I am going to appologize in advance if this is a somewhat-lengthy post; I have a habit of going into detail about things and ramble.

Anyways. As it happens tonight I was on twitter and someone marketing "Smoke Sticks" had decided to follow me. I found out that they were some sort of sales rep for these electronic cigarettes, and followed through to their website, which caused me to search on google for reviews of electronic cigarettes, and eventually my long travels though the internet taiga of electronic cigarettes led me here.

I have come to the conclusion, after reading through both horror stories and wonder stories, that this is most certainly something I would like to try out, and of course, share with my family. So, to start things off, I will introduce to you my wonderful smoking habits; I smoke roughly a pack of camel lights (and sometimes marlboro lights) a day. It has been this way for about seven years. I have attempted to quit a few times-the most successful of which was about two years ago while using Chantix-it worked scandalously well, with the exception of the fact that it made me feel terribly ill. I took the medication for about three weeks (and then halted it) and hadn't smoked a cigarette at all in those three weeks! It was marvelous! My wonderful 100% cigarette and nicotine free life continued on for a total of 3 months until, for reasons unknown to me, I found myself smoking again.

Now, I'm not looking to use these cigarettes to quit, and I'm not, of course, expecting a miracle to happen. However, I am incredibly intrigued by them and their smoke-less, odor-less, tar-less ways....but where to start?

My biggest worry is, of course, overdosing on nicotine. It has indeed happened to me before, so I know what to expect-but of course I want to try my best to avoid it. Considering I habitually smoke a pack of day, and after reading a few very insightful posts and watching a number of videos I have come to the conclusion that starting out low sounds like the best way to go...but how low? I'm looking at 11mg and that seems to be suitable, but I suppose I am looking for some input on that as well. I would like to be able to puff more than less, so that means to go with a lower dose....but I am honestly terrible with math so when it comes to ANYTHING dealing with numbers my brain seems to run in the opposite direction.

Also-what to buy!!! It seems there are so many types and styles of these. I have to say that I am infatuated with the way the Janty kissbox looks, and would like to find something similar to that (apparently these are difficult to buy because of high demand? am I wrong? Their website is not working at the moment...) Are there others which look similar to these?

Please pardon me if these are questions which can be easily answered by looking through the forum some more (which, I'm sure they are). I suppose I also felt a need to introduce myself instead of remaining a lurker! There is just so much to learn and the information that I am finding here seems to be invaluable-so thank you very very much to all of you out there.

You're not the only new guy here. My first will be at the post office waiting on me in a few hours when they open up. (I'm a night owl)
There's a lot of info to look at out there. I've been reading since I ordered it Sunday morning.
I ordered the 510 model, from choicevapor.com it had the best reviews, and the express deal was cheap way to test the thing out.

You will find that each person has their own personal favorite. I was a 2 pack a day....straight to 3 heart attacks and through triple bypass. Serious smoker so to say. I am happiest with the yenti 510 from electronicstix. Jason is the nicest guy and even gives out his personal phone number. It looks like a Janty, comes in black and is sleek. Also, It has a manual button which allows you to control the length of inhale and it has a wonderful throat hit. IMHO it is the best for me. What is best for you is yet to be seen. The yenti has a charger case that allows you to never go without a fresh battery waiting, too. Stay on this forum, ask questions and the folks are happy to help. I wasted $150.00 at a mall kiosk on what turned out to be junk...at least I found this site and made my choice. Look through the different models discussion boards and read the reviews and decide for yourself.
Good Luck and happy Vapin

When you overdosed on nicotine, what was it like? I thought of writing a book about near death experiences, but I never got around to interviewing a nicotine overdose victim to find out if they saw a bright light, or hovered over their spasming body, or just sat in a chair in purgatory. Some help here please!

If you're looking for lots of vapor and a good quality and consistent throat hit, like a lot of us, the e-cig models that have a manual switch are a good choice.

The importance of the manual switch is that it heats the atomizer portion of the e-cig to a higher temp which gives you warmer vapor, lots of vapor, and a good quality throat hit. Another important feature of the manual switch is that it does not have a short cut off or time out to the drag.

For someone new to e-cigs, I would recommend the 510 e-cig model. It's a manual switch e-cig that is reliable, durable, and does what an e-cig is suppose to do.

510 model e-cigs
USA Suppliers
Joye 510 ( e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's ) (use SAVE10 as a coupon code to get 10% off your order)

UK Supplier
Dura-C ( iVapour | Electronic Cigarettes | Janty Stick ? Janty Kissbox ? Janty Dura-C ? Janty Mini Fogger ? Janty E-Liquid & Cartridges )

China Supplier
Eastmall 510 ( 510 Manual Switch Starter Kit - Black - e-Cigs Manual Switch 510 - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd )

You may also want to include a 510 passthrough with your order. The passthrough is identical to a standard 510 rechargeable battery except that the end portion is wired to a standard USB connector. You simply plug the USB connector into a USB port or portable power pack and can vape all day long without having to change or charge batteries.

The e-liquid you buy will also play an important part in satisfying your nicotine cravings and also in providing a good throat hit. The higher you go in nicotine strength, the better the throat hit. 36 mg nicotine (the highest strength right now) does give a nice throat hit but made me sick and gave me headaches. I smoked 2-3 packs of ciggies per day for several years - so just because you smoked a lot doesn't mean that the higher nicotine is right for you.

For the first 2 months of vaping I used 18 mg (high) nicotine strength and was quite happy with that. I am currently now using 12 mg (medium) nicotine strength and still feel satisfied.

For a first purchase of e-liquid, I would recommend you buy the flavor or flavors you think will best suit your needs. You'll find the right strength for you. There are a lot of suppliers that have good liquid so the field is open there. Wherever you place your e-cig order you will also be able to buy e-liquid.

Finding the right e-cig model and the e-liquid flavor and nic strength that suits you is what is going to make you a successful e-smoker.

If you haven't done so already, your next step is to view these helpful videos:

Haha my experience wasn't quite that epic!
I had been using a patch that was apparently too strong for me. I had a dreadful headache, very very dizzy/lightheaded, feeling fairly weak, very faint, jittery, restless, unable to concentrate, nauseous, feeling just all-around miserable and hopeless and depressed and anxious. It wasn't entirely severe or anything, but it was enough to make me cautious about how much nicotine I'm taking in as I never want to experience that again.

Thanks a bunch guys for the help. I'm really excited about this, and have the boyfriend excited about it as well.

a pack of camel lights is 14 mg so 11mg might be good for you, but everyone vapes differently and vapes differently than they smoked..........just make sure you get some refill juice. It is not bad to get stronger like 18mg because you can always dilute it. Good news with these is if you start to feel the nicotine getting to you. You can stop or pull out a lighter strength cartridge.

Well since you got 3 reccomendations for the 510 I'll not disagree because I love mine. There is a lot of good suppliers listed. Shoot for a u.s supplier first time around because you'll probably watch out the window for the mailman. widowsbeadwork, electronicstix and rocky mountain vapor are very fast. I am sure there are others

Hi Schapiro,

You got some great advice from Mamu. I had the same concerns regarding nicotine as you when I started vaping about 5 months ago. I started with 11mg. I struggled a lot with cravings up until the last month or so. I believe it was because I started with a lower level than I should have. I stuck with it, and haven't gone back to analogs, but if I had it to do over again, I believe I would start with 18mg and then wean it down.

Here's some info on nicotine absorbtion you might find helpful.

I have been smoking between 3 and 10 cigarettes (Camel lights) for the last 20 years at least. I started down the electronic smoke path just this Sunday. My starter kit came with two regulars, two lights, and an ultra-light cartridge. The regular gave me a bit of a nicotine overdose, with a slight headache and light-headedness. The lights are working well for me.

In regard to nicotine strength. For myself, I was previously smoking close to two packs of Carlton Menthol cigs per day. Since those are "light" cigs, I chose the 11mg nicotine. At first, it seemed like it wasn't strong enough, but after I broke in my PV (there is a sort of learning curve and breaking-in period), I found that the 11mg is a good level for me.

However, I also have a bottle of 18mg and 0mg of my most-used flavor, and I can adjust during the day, if necessary. Sometimes, I'll top-up with the stronger juice (just a couple of drops), sometimes I'll top-up with the 0mg (again, just a few drops).

I hope to *someday* switch to 0mg completely, but I know that I'm not quite ready yet. In the meantime, I really feel like I have full control over my PV experience.

I would estimate that I use my regular 11mg about 75-80% of the time, and the other two (as top-ups) the remaining 20-25% of the time.

But that's me. YMMV.

It's strange,,, my first bottle was 11mg, and it just about knocked me over,,,

After vaping about 10 ml, I got some 18,,, and still wanted an occasional cigarette,, I then went to 24,,, and that was fine. Right now, it doesn't seem to matter as much what I vape,,, I'm just a happy vaper,,,

I've had two analogs in 2 1/2 months.
