Saw some of you in the other thread with obviously advanced knowledge of computers, so,

It seems like they've just made my connection sort of.. burstable.. I'm trying to upload a few hundred gigs of data to an FTP and I notice for the first 30 seconds I'll be going at around 2000k and then it throttles me back down to 280k

At first I thought I was running into this..
Cox Communications - Cable, High Speed Internet and Telephone services in Cox Communications

Then I found out my service is limited to 2M but the "power boost" feature essentially makes it burstable.. I'll never sustain more than 2M uploads, I guess. Not through any protocol.

The question is.. Is there a way to make the ftp client, or more accurately IS THERE an ftp client that'll automatically disconnect and reconnect every 20 seconds on files over 5mb??

And if so, will the connection stop being burstable? How intelligent is it??

All in all I can't complain about a 35/3 line for $60/mo .. That's beautiful .. Talked to a level 1 tech just now and the guy knew what I was talking about, actually admitted the congestion management software exists, etc.. But really couldn't do anything for me. I guess this is the fastest home user line they offer.

Gonna see what the business lines cost, tomorrow, he says they go up to 1000!!! But that costs 16k/mo ... WoW. I'm hoping maybe they'll sell me something reasonable like a 30/30 for $100+-

When is FIOS going to be available everywhere? That's supposed to be as high as 100/100 for $100/mo, I think!!

Thanks!!

I've uploaded 4gb thus far and I don't think it likes it..
This is the best result I can get out of 12 servers I've tried, (right now, anyway)..
Latency is always nicely low, though.. always well under 100ms, thank god!!
I wonder why they'd cut my download speed, off peak I usually get 30+ from most test servers

But look what power boost does.. that'd be nice, if it'd stay at five!!

I'm not sure I understand the question but powerboost is what I have with comcast and it just does a burst for downloads. You shouldnt be getting slow of speeds though. Some ftps are just slow though. Is it your ftp? If it is those speeds are about right with your connection. My 20 megabit connection downloads at about 2 megabytes a second.

My understanding of when the power boost kicks in it is designed to last while the bandwidth is generally available not to burst, so if the network is busy with people watching videos onlne you may not get the boost at all. Try it at 3-4 am and see if the boost lasts longer.

Also there may be alot of traffic on the server you are testing on so try several around you and go with the highest one, also check your jitter that is how much your ping is fluctuating.
