Concerned about Nicotine liquid

I just bought some DIY supplies and I'm a bit concerned about the nicotine liquid that I bought. It's 75% PG / 25% VG, 36mg. There are lots of warnings on the bottle. Is this dangerous? From my research I thought that only nicotine extraction was dangerous. Am I wrong? Did I buy something that I should not be messing with? I also bought 100% PG and 100% VG that I was going to mix with it to get it down to about a 16mg nicotine level. I appreciate any advice regarding this. Thanks!

Nicotine is a poison, so of course it'll come with warnings, as it should. Any manufacturer that doesn't print warnings, or give you a warning sheet shouldn't be selling it. With that out of the way, being a poison, as long as you take precaution, you'll be fine.

These are my must-haves when it comes to DIY. This is what I use for every mix, whether it's 5 ml or 100 ml, whether I'm using 48 mg Nicotine or 100 mg.

- 3x Syringes + Extras **
- - 1x for Nicotine Only, 1x for PG and 1x for VG + ? for flavors (I have about 5-10 I alternate through and clean in rotation).

- 1x Box of Nitrile Gloves
- - You can get them at Walmart and Walgreens. They're labeled non-sterile.
- - Non-Sterile doesn't mean they're bad, it just means they're not suited for surgical use. For DIY, they're fine.

- Amber or Blue Glass Bottles for 30-100 ml mixes
- - I find they work better and keep light out, thus keeping flavor in on darker juices.

- Plastic Bottles (5-15 ml) w/ Eye Dropper / Drop Tips

- Plastic Lids for Plastic Bottles
- - Most companies sell them together, but some don't.

** Getting syringes can be a PITA. Many pharmacies are going to require a prescription, so check and see if the dealer you're getting your DIY stuff from sells them and buy about 10. 16-18 gauge work best.

You can find an e-juice calculator here. This is the one I use and it's simple and to the point, but still allows for more complex calculations as well.

eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator

Use the calculator above to get your dilutions and use a syringe to measure each of the liquids out as it tells you to. A syringe is going to be the most accurate way as drops per ml doesn't always come out to 20; it can be 25, 30, 35, 40 - it just depends on how thick or thin it is.

The nic liquid that I bought is this and it says not to vape this in strengths of 60 mg or higher without diluting. Since this is 36 mg I should be able to vape this straight, is that not correct? I have no intention of doing so as I want to dilute it down to about 12 mg. Isn't what I have just 36 mg e-liquid that is no more harmful than any other e-liquid that anyone would buy ready to vape?

I did download the calculator a last week, wow, what a great tool that is! I've got no syringes so I'll have to order them, I'll poke around and see what I can find.

Yes, you can vape it at 36mg.. I wouldn't advise it though unless you were a heavy smoker. Your 12mg goal should be perfect for someone that was around a pack a day or less smoker.
The warning they give are still real, your skin can absorb the nic and lead to overdose.

The only difference between yours and "ready to vape" is that yours in unflavored. There are some of us that vape unflavored, and use 36mg. :) :vapor:

Look - a lot of what you are hearing is overkill. You do not need gloves to work with 36mg/ml nicotine. Many of us vape nic at that. If you spill a lot on yourself, go wash it off. it be absorbed through the skin, but it is not instantaneous, it would take awhile, plenty of time to go wash.

It is a poison, it is even an insecticide (at about 400ml/mg), but you don't ware gloves and lab coats and eye protection and panic about picking up a can of bug spray.

I think you meant to say 400mg/ml and if you're handling "bug spray" with that much nicotine you should definitely be wearing gloves, a lab coat and eye protection.

Yes you should use gloves if handling nicotine at concentrations of 400mg/ml - but of course I didn't back 40 or so years ago when I did organic farming and used a product called "Black Leaf 40", which you can no longer get in the US.

I should have written that sentence better. What I meant to say is that even though nicotine is a poison, it is not so poisonous that someone using a concentration of 36mg/ml (which I occasionally vape) should worry about wearing gloves to handle, any more then you would to use a common household insecticide, or any of the other common poisonous substances you have around the house.

I now use 10% bv = 100 mg/ ml and I use gloves I even mix under a vent ,it's you life how important is it to you ?
I use glasses too .
When I started I use 60mg/ml and made 30mg/ml to vape now I'm down to 8mg/ml ,this next Bach will be 5mg/ml
I may vape as long as I live but I don't wish to use nicotine all that time so I am cutting back slowly

I recommend gloves as PG/VG and the Nicotine can dry your hands out. I'm not worried at 48 and below, but anything above and you should be wearing gloves, period.

It's a general rule of thumb, wear gloves when handling chemicals, regardless of whether they're safe to handle or not.
