Looking for help with Canada customs. We have been vaping just over a year now. Our supplies come from china. Just received a letter from customs that our order was taken because there was nicotine in the kits (schedule F). Is it possible to get the kits back minus the nic filled cartridges? Has anyone had any success in appealing to customs? Thanks in advance for any help.

I read some suggestions on the boards for other countries about ordering e-liquid separate from hardware, and I think you have a better chance with ordering from the US because the suppliers here are familiar with Canada rules.

Personally, I would let the confiscation go so that your future packages aren't being watched, but hopefully someone will have some experience as to what happens when only part of your shipment is considered contraband.

ACK! So you lost the whole order because of some prefilled carts? That's just wrong :/

Hope it works out for you, but the only experience I've ever had with governmental confiscations ( a couple of times, but nothing for ecigs ) is to lose it all. And I agree that it might be best to keep quiet about it or get put on the 'check' list.

GL!

Sorry to hear this. As already suggested, up your post count so you can get fellow Canadians who know the ropes to advise.

My only similar experience was having 2 cartons of analogs ripped off in NY and receiving a letter from customs with a form to fill out to 'claim my property' if it were mine. I passed, because there was a chance that they'd then estimate the annual tax I owed them. I saved more than enough to lose an order or two back then. I don't have to worry about that anymore. I only wish you didn't either.

Good luck!

I remember showing in London, your just a couple hours over the border- if that? Maybe find a US vendor not too far out?

And I would start buying juice from USA. There are some people who sell it in the classies that dont mind shipping to Canada. I've done it. Its a lot easier to get packages over the border than dogs! I once had to stand outside my van and travel trailer with 4 great danes on leashes at the border. One tiny form at USPS with food flavorings is no issue.

I didn't want to read all posts so sorry if someone already beat me to this..But I was talking to a Canadian a couple weeks back and he spoke of the same problem...He however got around it by explaining the situation in the comment box when ordering so they shipped it to him and the lable had simply said "Aromatherapy Supplies"...No further problems..I also spoke to a man in Singapore who did the same thing, but he was worried because he had already been caught once and fined 5000 dollars...Can you believe that?

My first kit I bought from a supplier in China and I ordered some juice to go with the kit. It was caught by customs and they sat on it for an entire month before they returned it to the supplier to get my order resent (minus any juice, just added more hardware). I ordered in January and didn't see it until late March.

It is out of the suppliers hands until they get the stuff returned to them and I certainly couldn't do anything about it on my end either. The only advice I can give is order liquid from within canada or the us. And as lots of people already said order things seperately. They can't refuse it if its just hardware like a kit or atomizers, but if it contains prefilled cartridges or liquid they have every right to turn it away.....unfortunately.

I was expecting that letter from customs about my "illegal" actions on trying to smuggle class f drugs into canada (if nicotine is a drug why isn't everything smoking related outlawed) but I never got it. I just waited....and waited.....until finally my tracking number said it was heading back to china.

I'm not sure if I'm correct with this, but they also have the right to detroy any items they confiscate as well, so no matter how angry you may get at them or the situation don't demand anything. It may make the situation worse.

Good luck and keep us posted - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it gets returned sooner than later.

Happened to me in March after a few phone calls they did return them minus the nic filled carts. Hope it goes the same for you.

This is a quote from kanadiankat who is a canadian supplier. It was copied from a thread asking some one from the canadian thread to chime in on this

Confiscated ecig items fall into 2 categories.

1) without nicotine contents - you can contact canada customs and usually reason with them. they are not supposed to hold this stuff - but they often will. a few phone calls will generally clear the matter up.

2) with nicotine contents - canada customs has a directive from health canada to hold anything with nicotine and deny entry. customs does what they are told in that regard. you can take it to court - but that's about it. unless the package was worth taking to court - it's not going to be much use and it could take up to a year for a judge to hear the case. a judge will go strickly by the law - and not by a health canada directive - so the goods would be released. (this is the basic wording via a lawyer).
hope this helps.

I really hope these legal issues aren't a grudge based donkey-punch from 'Big Tobacco'.
We found a way to keep cigs in our lives! What more do they want from us?
I've never complained about the industry before as they have done the job I wanted from them - but if they kick me in the back as I walk away.. they become ~enemies~

Why aren't they leveraging their considerable influence to develop this new tech? There is a ton of money to be made here, people pay $100-$200 on avg for a new mod and have many. $10-$20 a bottle of eLiquid, flavorings, etc. Noone could compare to the distribution chain they bring to the table.

They will fall like on-air-broadcasts did to cable, and cable is now doing to the internet. Keep up with the times (I think Bob Dylan said that). Or take some of that cynide they've been marketing to us a flavoring!!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I remember when I first started importing, I was always nervous because of situations like these. Thankfully, I haven't had any trouble yet, and I've been getting large juice orders too.

I don't mean to rub it in, I just don't want you to be discouraged. The domestic prices in Canada for everything e-cig related are ridiculous and the quality of our juice is basically awful. Like everyone else said, once your post count is up, I'll be glad to speak with you via PM if you want some tips.
