Could someone please help me by explaining the difference in all this e cig stuff. I am a heavy smoker...I want to quit, but we all know how hard that is. I was given an e-cigarette that was puchased at a gas station. I cannot smoke the thing because, believe it or not, it makes me cough really bad. I honestly think I could become a non-smoker if I could just find the right e-cig or vapor or whatever. I need to know the differences in these things. It's hard for me to read the posts and figure anything out because of all the e-cig lingo that is on just about every post. I don't know what they mean and it would take alot of reading and research just to figure it out. Believe me, I have tried. What I want is the least harmful thing that is available. I have been reading and according to my research every e-cig is made in china. I don't know what to think about that because the e-cig that I already have is made in china and as stated...I cannot smoke it. What is vaping? Is vaping different than smokiing an e-cigarette? Is it the same thing? Please... someone tell me something. I am 46 years old and been smoking a very long time. I only want what is the least harmful thing to do...will still give me the same feel as if I'm "smoking" as in being able to hold it like a cigarette...and I would like to see smoke and or vapor...and to feel at least some of it in my throat. I also live in a very rural area and do not have the means to go and look at the different types of things offered. When I say rural...I mean RURAL. I gave up trying to figure all this out some time ago and figured I'd give it one more shot. It should be easier than this. I really hope to get an answer and I really hope it's not one of those that contain the typical e cig site lingo...because I will not be able to understand it. I wish there was an E-Cig For Dummies book. I'd buy it. At least it would take me step by step. Anyway...if you can help...thanks!

I strongly suggest that you watch these videos. This will explain most of it for you. Yes, I know it's for "broke people" and some of the info is a little dated, but it still applies to everyone. If anything, it'll get you started off the right way and you won't need to spend a fortune doing it. No one should need to spend a pile of money to make the switch.

Some things you need to keep in mind:

If you're a heavy smoker then the "analog" type batteries may not work for you. The general rule is the more like an analog, the shorter the battery life. This means you may need to rethink how important it is for you to have something that looks like a cigarette. This was a lesson I learned very quickly because my first e-cig looked like a cigarette and it SUCKED. I bought a Riva, which doesn't look anything like a cigarette, but still fits in the palm of my hand and lasts all day before I need to recharge it. I quit analogs the day I got it and I was amazed! Nothing before that ever worked.

The more common abbreviations will be lightly underlined in the posts. If you hover your pointer over the word, a definition will pop up.

My first few hits on a PV (personal vaporizer) made me cough too. That's when I said to myself, "This is going to change my life".

The act of using these devices is called vaping ... because there is no smoke, it isn't smoking.

The substances in eLiquid, or juice, are all found in cigarettes. But, cigarettes deliver upon burning,
thousands of chemicals not found in "electronic cigarettes".
Logically, since you're getting nothing not found in cigarettes, and are skipping out on
dozens of harmful chemicals, vaping is at least less harmful than smoking.

But, it's a new technology and there are no long term studies.

You're rural, I live in a city of close to 200K. Buying items is something we have in common though. Almost entirely online.

Read, read, read ... there's an overwhelming amount of information on ECF.
I especially recommend the ECF Library

Yes the newbie videos are the easiest introduction.

So people can help you pick something appropriate - what kind of cigarettes do you smoke (full-strength, lights or ultralights) and about how many packs or cigarettes oer day?

I agree that there are only a few good ones the size of a cigarette (maybe 2-3) and they are most suited to light to moderate smokers of lights or ultralights. They are called superminis.

Then there are minis and most of those are slightly thicker than a cigarette and around the length of a 120 cigarette.

Then there are fat-battery minis (Ego, Riva, Elegant) which are fat battery versions of other models with much longer battery life and more suited to anyone who is going to vape a lot (vape is drag on an e-cigarette).

An analog is a normal cigarette. I am new her as well, so welcome. You will find lots of help here. The people are great and very knowledgeable. I just started vaping (well as soon as my riva shows up). I bought an overpriced mall brand last week and already getting another. Smart move on your part coming here first! Watch the videos in the stickies, they helped me understand this new world very quickly! Check out some of the other threads on here and you will be up to speed in no time!

Stinky, cancer stick, cig, cigarette, analog, coffin nail. When you're using a Personal Vaporizer or e-cig you're vaping because what you exhale is vapor instead of smoke. You also aren't inhaling the 4000 chemicals found in cigarettes. You get the nicotine and a wide variety of flavors, but none of the other crap found in cigarettes. You'll find that after you've been vaping for a while it'll be easier to breathe, you won't have the classic "smoker's cough" and you, your car, your house, your hair and your clothes will smell much better. You might even find the smell of cigarettes offensive after a time.

Scamming you? What on earth does that mean? We don't measure in millimeters here.
Well, just as there are standard length cigarettes, there are 100s (like Marlboro 100s), and 120s (like More Reds). They get their name from their length in millimeters. And, even though you don't, I'm sure lots of folks in WV use metric, it's everywhere now. :)

Oh, and dare I say, if you get 'into' vaping, you'll become much more familiar with metric units of measure.
