I have been smoking anywhere from 4-10 cigarettes a day for 11 years. I really want to quit, and have tried a couple times, but the whole not being able to smoke something really messes me up. So I decided to try e-cigarettes. I bought my first one last night. I got the eGo-T. Nothing fancy or expensive, but I didn't want to spend alot of money on something that may not work for me. I got the menthol flavor with 6mg nicotine. I am use to smoking Marlboro smooths and use to smoke kool's back in the day so I got the menthol flavored liquid thinking it would be most like what I am use to smoking, but I can't really taste the menthol. Not to mention when I inhale the e-cigarrette it is so smooth and light.. it is like I am smoking a Marlboro light and I hate those. I really want this to work out and cut out cigarettes all together, but right now it isn't working for me. All this is overwhelming so it would be great if someone could give me some advice. Thanks!

Sounds like you just got some bad liquid.

Your ecig is fine. Should be plenty to compensate for your smoking habit. It's the menthol liquid that seems to be your problem. My wife uses a pure menthol, she won't touch anything else. I've tasted hers more than once and it's overpowering. There is no possible way you couldn't taste it.

Being "Smooth and light" with no menthol taste almost makes me wonder if they didn't hand you a bottle of unflavored VG mix by mistake. If you can I would take the bottle back and see if they have a sample you can try. I'll bet that somewhere along the line they made a mistake and you didn't get what you paid for. Make them fix it.

What nicotine level did you get? It is the nicotine level of the eliquid that provides 90% of the throat hit that simulates the feel of the real thing. Most new vapers start in the 18mg to 24mg nicotine level. There are also plenty of eliquid suppliers who all have their own menthols and all are somewhat different. I would try different ones as well as different nic levels.

Vaping and smoking are 2 different animals... there is no exact replacement for ciggies ( except for real tobacco)
consider going to a higher nic level ( 18-24) and trying a flavor that you will like thats not ciggie related....
too many people look for an exact replacement and become discouraged thinking they want to replace smoking with e cigs with the same flavor and "texture"... Its like replacing beef with chicken or fish....

you are probably not going to exactly replicate the taste of a cig.. perhaps you should try a store that has a sample bar and find something that tastes good to you. replacing what you are used to instead of copying might just work for you, it did for me. best of luck and welcome to the ECF.

This is so true. I tried to mimic tobacco flavors and was overly disappointed! It wasn't until I got away from that mindset and ventured away from duplication that I started enjoying vaping. I went with candy or dessert flavors (thanks to my wife) and wow what a difference it made in my whole experience! I would suggest a little stronger nic content though. If you find it is too strong you can always cut it back by diluting it with VG (you can buy it at, well just about any pharmacy or Walmart) to back the content down to your liking.

The eGo-T is a very nice battery, so no problems there.

Like everybody else commented, it's the liquid. Try a 100% PG, higher nicotine, and different company's menthol to start. Maybe 12 mg, 18 mg, or even 24 (but I suspect 24 is going to be too high for you since you don't smoke that much).

My basic DIY menthol is designed to be light and airy because I prefer that...but even so, non-menthol people tell me the menthol is overpowering. I just find it pleasant. :) Most purchased menthols will be much stronger.

One recommendation I have is to try the Kool liquid from My Freedom Smokes. I found that to be too strong for my taste in the long run, but it's a good flavor, inexpensive, and very menthol. I used it during my transition period because of the strength and throat hit, which was very good.

Another thing to keep in mind is the relationship between the voltage of your battery and the resistance of your coil. If you're getting a light and airy vape then it could be you have too high of a resistance coil for that battery. The eGo's I believe put out 3.7 volts, and over the course of a day while vaping drops even lower. If you are using a 2.5 ohm head (coil) then you are only vaping at roughly 5 watts on a fresh charge, which will drop during the day. Try getting a 1.5 ohm coil (if you don't already have one) and you should get better results.

But like everyone above said, it could be the juice too, or bad wicking, lots of different variables effect vape quality...

I agree with what Completely Average, perhaps you got something you didn't order. I accidentally got menthol in place of my regular e-juice, and I hate menthol. It was quite noticable. Luckily, they sent me a replacement juice and told me to keep it. It was so unvapeable to me (I really hate menthol) I ended up giving the whole 50ml to someone who was one of those "off and on" smokers. I gave her that + an EGO battery + a ce5 clearomizer and told her never to touch another cigarette again. :) she hasn't yet, and uses the ego instead when she feels the need for a cigarette.

If you can't take back your juice, you can also consider adding a menthol flavoring to whatever you have. This: Menthol Flavoring is strong, only a few drops in a whole bottle is enough to make the entire flavor a menthol flavor. I've bought one of these for a friend of mine who's wife vapes menthol as well. One bottle lasts a long time and allows you to try any flavor and turn it into a menthol. Imagine gummy bear menthol, or skittles menthol. :)

Anyways, just thought I'd point that out. :)

good luck and vape on.

And, you could add a few drops in your existing juice as well if you found the MFS menthol to be too stout...

If you do add a menthol flavor to your pre-made juice it's recommended 1 drop/ml. So if you have a 10ml bottle of juice that would be 10 drops. This makes it pretty mentholy but a friend of mine who smokes menthol light said I got it just right so I'll take her word for it. It's also very cheap to do. Good luck!

Your vape shop should be able to add some menthol to your liquid to suit you. From the folks around here, it seems to be easier for them to quit cigs if they are menthol smokers. As far as finding an exact replacement for your cigarette, no. A good substitute, yes. Try a sample that you like at your B&M and have them drop some menthol in it. Fruit flavors work well too. But remember if you are looking for an exact replacement for fruit, candy, dessert, or anything you can give it up because vaping can't reproduce eating these things. Vaping Tobacco flavors is closer to smoking cigarettes than vaping food flavors is to eating food :)

Some of it, anyway. I vape a very low nic liquid (lower than yours) and still get great throat hit.

PG-based liquids tend to have greater throat hit, VG-based liquids less throat hit (all else being equal).

Flavor influences throat hit. Menthol has a lot, cinnamon also has a lot, most fruit flavors have very little. Other flavors are all over the map. Generally the mints and spices will have more, while sweet flavors have less, but that does vary.

I hear ya! My ego-T system didn't have quite enough power until I switched to the ego twist (650mah) battery to up the voltage just a tad. Also, getting the low resistance atty and using it on the standard ego worked too. The ego tanks (plastic cartridges) tend to mute the flavor as well, so had to go higher in nic and stronger menthol so that I could "feel" and "taste" it, more like the cigarettes (I've tried Marlboro Smooth and while they were smooth, they are stronger than the 6mg nic you are using.)

Hopefully, just changing your liquid will work. If not, try the LR atty or an adjustable voltage ego. Good luck:)
